On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
First couple today starting with Jimmy Smith - The Cat , a fine album with his Hammond organ to the fore but with his drummer and guitarist augmented with a brass section.
Then Bruce Hornsby - Halcyon Days, a later album that sees guest spots from Sting,Elton John and Eric Clapton.
Alan
Lightnin' Hopkins - Eight Classic albums.
Some Saturday afternoon blooze, with this 4 CD set, covering eight of Lightnin's albums.
Remastered impeccably, as usual, by the folks at Real Gone Music.
The choice of the day:
The other choice was grab my ticket and drive to attend the AXPONA HiFi show, but for some reason I am not in the mood for wondering among nerds with a glassy look in their eyes admiring 100K gear which allows them to hear someone on the second row scratching his tusch during a live recording...
Now playing........
John Hicks - Beyond Expectations
John Hicks (piano), Ray Drummond (bass), and Marvin "Smitty" Smith (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL....... Going with a mention from HAIM RONEN from yesterday and taking out John Hicks for a spin. Great album to start this lazy, peaceful Saturday morning!
Iggy Pop American Caesar Why? Why not.
Eric Clapton - Theres One in Every Crowd , a more reggaefied and low key follow up to 461 but stands the test of time nicely IMO
Now Playing........
Natalie Cole - Thankful
Streaming on TIDAL......... A mention from GIANLUIGI MAZZORANA had me place this in the Tidal queue and now taking this out for a spin......... A familiar voice, a blast from the past that is sounding sweet!
Charlie Musselwhite - One Night In America.
Some gentle blues and country from Charlie on vocals, with able assistance on guitar from GE Smith and Robben Ford ..............
shades of J. J. Cale, which can't be a bad thing.
Tina Tuner 1988, Maracana-stadion in Rio de Janerio. 184 000 people at the Concert. Worldrecord even today,George Michail is nearest with 160 000 at the same stadium.Tina is here 48 years old and this is the last song in that Consert.

Tadd Dameron with John Coltrane - Mating Call
- Tadd Dameron - Piano
- John Coltrane - Sax
- John Simmons - Bass
- Philly Joe Jones - Drums
Recorded in 1956. Good jazz album by the lesser known Tadd Dameron. All songs are compositions by Tadd Dameron.
Had a great late afternoon and early morning evening with some great jazz
Very thoughtful
Another one with the trio, refined...
Wow this lady can sing, very good debut...
Bought an album more from these guys, a fine trio...
Very refined a polished trio jazz. I will get more of these guys...
More round black stuff
Why? A change of pace from the hedonistic headbanging of earlier and post-gardening.
