Original 1981 Factory Records vinyl. No reason really, it's just been ages. And it's a gloriously sunny day.

Fain - Wolf People

They passed their "difficult second album" test with flying colours with this one, more lovely 70's sounding folk rock, fuzzy prog and psychedelia from Wolf People.

Joni Mitchell - Hejira, early ‘80s vinyl reissue (£2.99 Nice Price I think)

I replaced the 1990 Hicap with a 1995 Supercap in my 82/135s system today, so just enjoying one of my favourite albums. My favourite Joni, she was on great voice, this is one of her jazz-influenced albums, she had an amazing band, Larry Carlton played some great soft jazz guitar lines, and a few tracks had Jaco Pastorious’s bass almost duetting with Joni. Add the fact that for me this was the album where the poetry of her lyrics reached a peak, poetic lines that I’d happily read in a book made even better by brilliantly sensitive musical arrangements. It finishes with Refuge of the Roads, a song where Joni's poetic brilliance comes together with a great tune and arrangements, add stunning musicianship including Jaco being as great as I’ve ever heard him, if you like jazz/rock with intelligence have a listen.

Agreed. Her best studio album IMO. Check out the live album too, ‘Shadows and Light’.

Yes - Tormato - vinyl

I got this mint condition copy from the local Canal Trust Shop. Mixed reviews when released but time changes opinions. Really good - what do you think? I probably need to buy plastic sleeves to protect the cover before adding it to the rack.

Phil

Thanks for the reminder. I’ll have to give it another spin, but I think it is an enjoyable album. IIRC this was the last with the classic line-up before the Buggles and Trevor Rabin took over.

Yep, Shadows and Light is another special album.

Eden House | Half Life

Fine female fronted soulful goth rock with psychedelic undertones one of those pleasant finds from a few years ago.

"The Eden House are built around the core duo of guitarist Stephen Carey and bassist Tony Pettitt of Fields of the Nephilim together with drummer Simon Rippin of The Nephilim. The Eden House expand their horizons working with top musicians from the prog-rock and trip-hop worlds to create their unique fusion sound."

Neck and Neck

Some commentators say that this was Chet Atkins best album (despite his great back catalogue of country music/jazz). The two certainly seem to bring the best out in each other. This is a well recorded beautifully played feel good, laid back listen.

After a buying spree on the weekend, i've been ripping the new arrivals. First up on the Melco is this one. I'd never heard of this chap before hearing 'Sing all our cares away' on R6 Music on Sunday. Great voice, poignant songs. I'll be investigating more of his work.

This seems interesting, is it any good?

It’s pretty good, but not quite as good as the members led me to hope. The bits with vocals are a bit limp. Still, game for letting it grow on me.

Thanks – I’ll give it a go then.

I think it’s not good enough, so I will just keep it in Tidal and will not buy it...

2003 - CD (rip)...

Pity this in only available on CD and streaming as I  would love to see it on Vinyl. It’s an amazing album.

Just been listening to this gorgeous album with my iPhone and Bose noise cancelling headphones on a flight from Hamburg to Amsterdam, having been reminded of it by Eoink and being lucky enough to have it on my phone.

And for the next leg of the journey:

Another album which holds some special memories as well as a few kB of my iPhone’s memory!

Ten Years After - Ssssh

From Beck to Lee, not their best album perhaps but none of them were bad were they?

I have been looking for Cricklewood Green for a while now but its not available on the usual download sites in lossless. When I was looking the other one up just now, I saw on Amazon there is a new remaster of Cricklewood Green out on Friday - its only 8 quid on there for the CD so I will wait for that.

SJT, this might be worth a punt if you don't have these three albums, one available for £10.50 down at the river.

Thanks! I don't have any of them so this looks promising indeed!

BBC Music cover CD of archive performances, WAV CD rip

Yehudi Menuhin with David & Igor Oistrakh playing the Vivaldi Concerto for 3Violins, Quartetto Italiano playing Mozart’s Hunt Quartet, and Shura Cherkassky playing Schubert’s Impromptu. The three fiddlers are excellent in the Vivaldi, bringing out the fluidity and fun, the Mozart is beautifully played with an almost courtly grace, and the Schubert is delightful.
