Huey Lewis and The News. Sports. On original vinyl from 1983. I remember this album being a huge success. Just how big I wondered? Wikipedia says the album went to #1 in the US, was #2 for the year 1984, and of the nine tracks four went top 10 while a fifth was top 20. Pretty big.

The Marshall Tucker Band. Greatest Hits. On original vinyl from 1978. In the mood for some classic southern rock.

Looking forward for this coming out. Listened to the available songs on Tidal yesterday evening...

Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes. On original vinyl from 1976. Their debut and best album in my view. Quintessential Jersey Shore sound.

  Jimi Hendrix - Blues.

Jimi cries the blues, as only he could.

Les Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II on Japanese SHM CD rip.

Talking of rifftastic, ^ , here's the riffmeister himself, (with a little help from his friends ).

BBC4 did a program on the riff for the musically uneducated like me on Friday 13 April. I Beethoven must have written the most well known riff ever! Worth a watch on catchup.

Listened to LZ4 and Physical Graffiti in car yesterday. They seemed more like a return to LZ2 after what for me was the disappointing LZ3.

What’s your favourite?

Hi Phil,

I find it almost impossible to choose a "best one", but if I was pushed, and could only have just the one, it would probably be disc 1 of

"Physical Graffiti" ............... "In My Time of Dying" and "Kashmir" do it for me, every time.

Mind you, the "No Quarter" album I posted yesterday runs it a close second, IMHO.

  Eric Bibb - Booker's Guitar.

Slipping into a mellow frame of mind before going to see Mr. Bibb this evening.

A solid rock album, with a bit of playfulness...

I suspect Jimmy Page would probably say Black Dog as he was often quoted as saying it was the most complicated way of getting from E to A ever.

Enjoy it Dave. He’s really good Live - better than on record IMO. I saw him many years ago at Freight & Salvage, just outside San Francisco. We have tix for his Exeter gig in May too.

Now playing  Sparks - Kimono My House , who can forget seeing Sparks for the first time on Top Of The Pops in 1974  with the slightly sinister Ron Mael and his high pitched voiced brother Russell .Was it pop or glamrock? I did't know but it was a bit different. This is the only Sparks I own but this album is still enjoyable after all this time and its enough for me

Really looking forward to this, especially as it will be in a small, sold out, 200 seater intimate venue, only 30 mins. drive from home.

Will report back tomorrow.

Heads of State - four in one.

Solid jazz from these experienced men.

  • Gary Bartz - Sax
  • Larry Willis - Piano
  • David Williams - Bass
  • Al Foster - Drums

Santana Brothers - Santana Brothers , an album of instrumentals from Carlos ,brother Jorge and their nephew Carlos Hernandez which is a bit of a clash of styles .Whilst Santana and his brother compliment each other sympathetically the younger Carlos jars with his heavy metal styling although there are one or two decent tracks that are worth hearing

Passenger - The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Great songwriting and some lovely choons.

Another tip from Ewen IIRC.

Recommended.

Been playing this since it was released (1968) and it never loses it's appeal.
