On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
SRV & Double Trouble. Live At Carnegie Hall (1984). On CD from 1997. A high energy performance that never lets up from the get-go. To paraphrase two reviews "a stomping roadhouse with blistering fretwork".
Tango: Laurindo Almeida and Charlie Byrd (SACD)
Emma Kirkby & James Akers - Dowland
Had already a great experienc this morning through a playlist of Qobuz on Spanish contemporary jazz...the first being fashion combined with modern creative, a nice cocktail...
Also creative
This guy and the next one are the great explorations of this morning. You should check out this modern jazz trio...
And another good one of the same guys...
Marco Mezquida is the other big recommendation I have. He has already been quite productive in different ensembles and solo. At the center of the Barcelona Jazz scene, give it a trio, with another great player Jesper Bolidsen ....
This is also absolutely recommended. Ravels music in jazz format...
After all this new stuff moving to something I have already longer...
Ike Quebec: Bossa Nova Soul Samba (SACD)
BBC RadIo 3 on DAB radio through what sounds like rapidly boiling mud. I so hate DAB!
Joseph Moog - Brahms piano concerto No. 2
Interesting album...
More from John McLaughlin, this time 'Electric Guitarist'. This was possibly the first version of Ned Washington and Victor Young's 'My Foolish Heart' I heard, but didn't fall in love with it until I heard the version on 'Waltz for Debby' by Bill Evans. I now have three guitar versions by JM, but I think this is my favourite guitar version.
The rest of the album is superb too BTW.
Rainy day, Lady Day. Four CDs worth of stuff from her Columbia period:
Quite some time ago that I listened to this interesting guitar version....
Paul Rodgers - The Royal Sessions - WAV CD rip
Arrived today, 1st play, lovely stuff, Memphis Soul and R&B classics, classy band and Paul Rodgers in great voice, he sings these so well. Thanks for the introduction Alan.
