(2013)

Riverside - Shrine of New Generation Slaves

This a Polish prog rock / soft metal band that I have loads of time for. Very good music with well crafted well played songs fronted up by those great distinctive vocals of Mariusz Duda, well worth giving them a try if you aren't familiar with the band and are into the genre.

Adrian Boult/LPO - Bach Brandenburg Concertos No’s. 1,3,5, WAV CD rip

I played the companion disc with  Nos. 2,4,6 recently and realised I didn’t have this, discogs remedied that. First play, lovely, the Brandenburgs are just glorious, Baroque at its most attractive, beautiful rhythmic tunes with sophistication there when you look for it. Boult and the LPO play these beautifully, a really enjoyable disc.

I can go with that idea!

As you're into Zep, treat yourself to one of these Japanese SHM CD imports.

There's much love for these, here on the Forum, and they're generally held to be the best yet, including Jimmy Page's remasters.

I agree. Best CD versions of Led Zep I've heard.

Phil, I really like LZ and love songs from all the albums but as a whole album between II and III I prefer the II.

I have the albums in Vinyl, cd and digital. I'm streaming Tidal coz is the only source I have in my "new" 272 - 200 in the sitting room. I replaced a V1 by a 272 and is a big improvement even with a totally inappropriate setup.

Yep, I'm another to nail my colours to this particular SHMCD mast, it's a very fine box set.

The box-set is pricey but probably cheaper than buying all the albums individually.

Nerina Pallot - Stay Lucky - CD

Tonight it is sounding quite the best it ever has, showing lots of subtle detail. I went back to my Chord Clearway Digital after a period with the DC1. Everything has sounded subtly better since.

Also played Genesis, Selling England by the Pound earlier. Amazingly good. Could be my favourite.

Mike, [@mention:12970396060785205], How was her concert a week ago?

(2011)

Gazpacho - London

Another contemporary favourite prog band of mine in recent years, they are described as a post prog rock / art rock outfit from Norway,  they make very good music with nods back to the old prog style. This is a double live album saved from the original soundboard in Dingwalls (London). Really good music if you are into the genre, I can't wait for their next album.

William Whitehead - Mendelssohn Organ Sonatas, WAV CD rip

Fancied some organ music, and picked one of the discs I recently picked up from the Chandos sale for its first play. I don’t really know the Mendelssohn Sonatas, but they’re immediately appealing. Rich textures, lovely tunes, deep romantic sensibility, I haven't got a reference for comparison, but I’m really enjoying Whitehead’s performances, lovely tempi make the music dance. Played apparently on the organ in the Buck House ballroom, here getting a run out on the NDX/olives/B&W804s rig, the low notes are moving the room authentically.

I have to get a train to a meeting before 6 tomorrow morning, so this’ll have to be my last one for the night, a very enjoyable choice.

Although highly regarded by many, it’s not quite my favourite Rollins (that would be The Bridge), but still some inventive playing here.

After the discussion earlier regarding Ram thought it was time to give Red Rose Speedway from Wings a spin for an early solo McCartney fix.

Alan, that album is a gap in my collection - must remedy that asap! Any good compared to the others?

Hi, I am biased and think there is something to enjoy on every McCartney release and this is no different .The best known track is probably  the single "My Love" but there is the typical variety to be found that is apparent on other albums. Also at least it sounds like a group effort although still under McCartney's vice like grip.It is well recorded and there are plenty of melodic moments but I suppose some of the lyrical content is on the light side.So all in all typical early '70s Macca

Cheers ,Alan
