On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
My Dying Bride, The Dreadful Hours.
MDB do Doom metal beautifully, the way they move from full on force to delicate simplicity is wonderful. Try it, you never know, you may like it ????

The Rolling Stones - 1st. Album.
In mono, as it should be .......... from the mono boxset.
Ah ................ Dansette Days are here again! ................ (with apologies to Led Zep).
I used to have this one until a party in the early 1970s. I ask for it back from time to time! Quite collectible!
Phil
Yes, mine went too, though it simply wore out through endless playing.
Those Dansettes ................. tracking force? ................... bias? .................who cares, just sling it on!
I had a PYE Black Box until 1969 when I bought a Connoisseur belt driven turntable, Roger Ravensbrook amplifier and a pair of Goodman Magnum K2 speakers. The records never came to any harm. I sometimes think the stylus hardly got into the grove leaving lots of vinyl for better ones!

The War Of The Worlds - 16/44.1
One of the best albums ever made IMHO.

I have to agree, this is one of the few albums my Son and me love, it makes the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. Good choice Sir.
Norah Jones - Not Too Late

firmware update on my sadly obsolete NDS.
Well, I'm firmly in the yeasayers camp .................. Blimey!

ND 555? .................... naah.
Ah, but you already have two 555PSDRs. If an ND555 with one 555PSDR beat your current set up, you could trade in one PS with your NDS and you'd be able to upgrade at minimal cost. You could even add a second PS at a later date.
There's a dilemma for you!
As Clive knows I succumbed to an itch and went for the nearly new demo 252 I’ve had since the new year. Naim lost a 552 sale because they did not send the 552 demo boxes back to me last week as had been agreed. They wanted it for another show, perhaps the ND555 launch.
Given the choice of returning the the 252, I bought it rather than have to pay more and run in another preamp. A £3k part exchange and bye bye 4 year old 282! The 252 is sounding far better than the 552 since I added Naim isolation glass, cups and balls.

George Cables - Shared Secrets
This intriguing set for pianist George Cables is in some ways a throwback to the 1970s. Although he has often played hard bop in recent times, in the '70s he was more eclectic, so he is heard on both acoustic and electric pianos. The music (all his originals except for the spiritual "Go Down Moses") is soulful and sometimes funky, hinting at 1970s fusion and pop in spots while still swinging. Cables is heard with two different rhythm sections (either bassist Abraham Laboriel and drummer Peter Erskineor bassist Alphonso Johnson and drummer Vinny Coliauta) with guest appearances from Bennie Maupin on bass clarinet and altoist Gary Bartz. This small label release is worth searching for.
Now Playing.........
Pat Metheny Group - American Garage
Pat Metheny (6 and 12-string electric and acoustic guitars), Lyle Mays (piano, oberheim, autoharp, organ), Mark Egan (bass), Dan Gottlieb (drums).
Streaming on NAS......... Starting with some pop influenced jazz, bright and airy, to help me get moving and ready to face the day!
The other album capturing music recorded on 25 June 1961 at the Village Vanguard. There is a complete 3 CD box set of these performances available these days which sequences the music as it was played on the day, which might be better. The problem with this OJC release is that it puts various takes together so that you get two versions of each piece one following the other. I know this can be programmed out, but I prefer just to hit 'play' and off we go.
Now Playing.......
Joe Sample - Old Places Old Faces
Streaming on NAS.......... Prompted by the mention from DAV301 I am going to take Joe out for a spin, an album that I enjoy but have not played in a few months, or perhaps longer......... so much music, so little time.........
Greg Lake - Greg Lake, this is his first solo album and more rock than prog, but not too bad.Gary Moore is a featured guitarist.
