What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Now Playing.......
Joe Sample - The Pecan Tree
Streaming on NAS........ just going to continue on with another one of Joe's albums, keep it light an lively with Joe's fine piano playing with the Quintet playing some wonderful smooth jazz. You will even find Lizz Wright (who deservedly gets a lot of love here on the forum) mentioned as a newcomer performing.
A Masterpiece Album by the Byrds - Playing on Vinyl on Colombia Records 1968 - As David Crosby had just left, but on the record....On the album photo shoot they replaced him with a horse !!
Chick Corea - Rendezvous in New York
1971 - CD(2015) rip...
John Lennon/Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy Stripped Down , playing the stripped down disc which removes some of the extraneous elements from the mix and makes the tracks appear more intimate. This helps them blend better with the Lennon tracks on the Milk and Honey album.
Now playing........
Nils Frahm - All Melody
Streaming on TIDAL....... Taking Nils out for a spin, an album released in January that I had previous played but not for awhile and giving it another listen.
With the late, great Emily Remler on guitar.
Complete change in direction. Mahler 10 (Cooke), BPO, Rattle.
(1985 | 2013 SACD remaster)
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
A random pick to kick off with.
Gary Numan, Savage. Not really a fan of him or electronica but have to admit I am liking the middle eastern vibe infused into the industrial mix. A challenge for me but very interesting.
Stu
Eels - The Deconstruction
Perhaps familiarity breeds indifference, or perhaps people are wary of E's rather downbeat feel, but this new one is just terrific. In many ways a return to the very first album - he's still wearing his unhappiness on his sleeve, but the songs here are wistful (with lovely arrangements reminiscent of early Nick Drake) or perky. There's ever a short lullaby for his young son!
Here's wistful:
And here's perky!
And - for Qobuz Sublime subscribers the 24/96 download is just £5.99
Thanks, Nick. I've yet to get around to listening to this... so much music so little time!
I obviously wasn't in the right frame of mind for Mahler, so after the first movement a complete change of direction. A bit more energy (and jollity) in this, Ozric Tentacles, 'Erpland'.

Lovely! One of their best but now that you've put them back into my head... can I resist?
(1979)
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
I have to 'fess up and admit that for a few decades I dismissed Fleetwood Mac's output after Danny Kirwin and Greeny left. I was wrong they knocked out some very good albums of a non blues based persuasion, this is one very fine example which was very well recorded and is a real delight.

Strong Ozric resistance there, Steve! But I might now have to play Rumours next.
Going through MQA content rather like a child in a sweet shop.
This is is pretty damn good.

It was tough, Clive. Probably helped by the fact that I was 'only' in Dire Straits mode before. I'm not sure I will be able to resist any further though after Tusk has played out...
Wilko Johnson - I Keep It To Myself - The Best Of.
Off to see the irrepressible Mr. Johnson next week in Leeds, which should be a larf ............... so, this.
EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL: BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT (Vinyl)
Tracy Thorn - Record
The recommendation of an old girlfriend. Dangerous territory.
John Abercrombie & Andy LaVerne - Now it can be played.
A very nice recording. John Abercrombie and Andy LaVerne are a really good fit.
- John Abercrombie - Guitar
- Andy LaVerne - Piano
- Steve LaSpina - Bass
- Jeff Hirshfield - Drums
CROWDED HOUSE: CROWDED HOUSE (Vinyl)

They certainly did, Steve. Someone coming new to pre-post Green material would I suspect thing they were two completely different bands. Happily I enjoy both.
One of my three favourite Tull albums.
