On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
The Alarm - Change.
Hadn't listened to this '89 album in aeons ............ the opening track, "Sold Me Down The River" is an absolute belter, so fingers
crossed for the rest of it.
Now Playing..........
Eberhard Weber - Later That Evening
Eberhard Weber (bass), Paul McCandless (soprano saxophone, oboe, English horn, bass clarinet), Bill Frisell (guitar), Lyle Mays (piano), and Michael DiPasqua (drums, percussion).
Out in the backyard helping the better-half string some netting up for peas...... and now back to the music......
Streaming on NAS.......... One of my favorites from Eberhard, simply beautiful!
James Dey - the night-time, WAV CD rip
Singer-songwriter I saw last night, I picked this up at the gig. He’s very good, very attractive “sensitive” acoustic songs, he has a very mellow voice, intelligent lyrics, and a lovely sense of flow in his writing. Big change of pace from the Feelgoods, but really enjoyable.

Were you listening to Jazz Record Requests earlier this afternoon on BBC Radio 3 per chance?

New to me, I like that a lot and the previous Eberhard album you posted earlier - very 70’s! Yourself and Bert post some great stuff and have really opened up my music - thanks!
The first great Miles Davis quintet. The AMG review comments on the soloists and notes particularly the connection between the players. But for me it's the playing of Red Garland on piano who really excels with some beautifully fluid lines.
Richard Thompson- Across A Crowded Room, original U.K. vinyl
A typically top-class album from RT, some lovely bouncy rock tunes, some stunning guitar solos, Chris Collister on backing vocals. Songs range from breakup numbers , through good rock-outs to two haunting side-enders , Love In A Faithless Country and Ghosts In The Wind. Classy songs well sung and brilliantly played.
Jaqueline Du Pre - Elgar and Dvorak Cello Concertos - CD
There is nothing like the power that an Orchestra in full swing can generate. It was one of the things I noticed with the demo 552, and the 252 I have now bought conveys the same. These two works are among our favourites, and are sounding the best they ever have. The cello is full of depth of note and great variety of tones and textures. The other instruments are very distinct. Music heaven. Whoever says the 252 is not as exciting as the 282 is wrong. It’s got it in spades.

No ,I generally just make a random choice of discs for playing during the day and then a choice for the evening that can be enjoyed at a lower volume. So just by chance tonight.
The Pentangle - Basket of Light, 1980s UK reissue vinyl
Classic late ‘60s folk/folk-ro k. Two top-class guitarists, great bassist, excellent female vocalist, a good range of traditional and original numbers. The Lyke-Wake Dirge (traditional song describing the soul’s journey after death) is incredibly haunting.
MQA version. Marvellous album, sounding marvellous.

Last for the evening

After a walk with the wife down & back to the annual vegetable garden plant sale, the music continues......
Streaming on TIDAL........ A mention from ALANP regarding Charlie Watts had me do a search on Tidal, the 'Long Ago & Far Away' album was not listed so taking this out for a spin......... The first couple of tracks are excellent, enjoying the big band sound!
Now Playing......
K. D. Lang and the Reclines - Absolute Torch and Twang
Streaming on NAS......... Need some toe tapping and this album will fit the bill! and K. D. has the vocals and the band has the swing, sounding mighty fine indeed.......

I tried Emil Brandqvist Trio last year and perhaps didn't give them long enough. Listening to Within a Dream now and it's a wonderfully uplifting experience. I'll listen to their other material later. Thanks Bert.
Kinda forgot how good this is, what a pleasure to listen to!
