What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Now Playing.........
Fred Simon - Since Forever
Fred Simon (piano), Paul McCandless (soprano saxophone, oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, duduk), Steve Rodby (acoustic bass), and Mark Walker (drums, percussion).
Streaming on NAS....... A sunny and beautiful morning and felt that Fred Simon's "Since Forever" album fit perfectly with the day! Sounding fantastic.......
Hubert Laws - "The San Francisco Concert" (1977) my gateway to (smooth) jazz roughly 38 years ago.
Nice Relaxing Grateful Dead Acoustic set from 1980 - Playing on Compact Disc on Arista Records
A beutiful album.
Kacey Musgraves never heard of her till few weeks ago a very enjoyable Cd.
Dave Grusin - "One Of A Kind" (1977) continuing with the smooth jazz flashbacks, and also containing, like the Hubert Laws disc, the great song Modaji.

Yep - one of her best.

Much better than his first E.P. which had some of the numbers off this album done acoustically.
An artist to watch
Where can it be purchased please.
Try fish records £11.99
You can also buy this on the river through their international sales (sent from USA) for £7.50 plus approx £3 postage. Bargain of the year if you ask me!
Dave Grusin - "Night-Lines" (1984) more smooth morning choices, this features two tracks with Phoebe Snow on vocals, one of which is here:
Diane Schuur - "Deedles" (1984) I believe she was based out of Seattle and I was fortunate to see here live in Pdx with the Tom Grant Band about the time this was released. Pretty darn good singer.
The Ray Brown trio with Ralph Moore - Moore makes 4
- Ray Brown - Bass
- Gene Harris - Piano
- Jeff Hamilton - Drums
- Ralph Moore - Sax
Cleo Laine and Dudley Moore - "Smilin' Through" (1982) DM gets serious, and very, very good.
Cannonball Adderley and the Poll Winners
Great jazz from 1960.
- Julian "Cannonball" Adderley - Alto Sax
- Wes Montgomery - Guitar
- Victor Feldman - Piano / Vibes
- Ray Brown - Bass
- Louis Hayes - Drums
After playing the Vengerov version last night I played this version by Kyung Wha Chung with the LSO under André Previn. For some reason this gets the top recommendation in the Penguin guide, but it lacks the emotional intensity she conveyed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Dutoit. The recording quality is not as good either.
This is the best IMHO:
It might be benefitting from the slightly more mellow character of vinyl too.

Colin Stetson - All This I Do For Glory (from album of same name)
Saxophone player, through some great effects, leading to some very interesting electronic/minimalist music indeed. A new find for me - very exciting!
Peter Frampton
Frampton Comes Alive! - CD Rip
Been a very long time since I heard this classic album, brings back a lot of memories.

Hi Nick,
I saw Ex Eye at the Barbican recently & Colin shifted air in ways I'd not heard before.
Try this...

Tom Adams - Silence
Cara Dillon - Wanderer
Music has the power to excite but also to relax. These two wonderful pieces of music have the extraordinary ability to relax, engage and move the listener, well me anyway.
The Leaving Song on Cara Dillon's Wanderer album is, to this listener, a perfect piece of music. It gets me every time I hear it. I cannot offer any higher praise than that.
Jim Croce - Don't mess arounf with slim. Vinyl
A hand full of outstanding tracks on the album
Elton John v Pnau - Good Morning to the Night, a remix album created by mixing early Elton tracks together ala The Beatles Love project. Not too bad as its fun to spot where the different elements are taken from.

Thanks, PCD. Have just ordered the CD.

A few days ago I caught a TV programme about the making of this album and Ziggy - on BBC4, I think - and made a mental note to play the album again. This and Ziggy are my favourite Bowie albums.
