What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac
A chance to hear that Student Union coffee bar favourite Rhiannon. Musical tastes may have changed since the early 80s but I'm hoping the strong, milky coffee and the bacon rolls are still the same.
Phil Woods & Gorden Beck - Live at the Wigmore Hall
Phil Woods - Sax; Gorden Beck - Piano
Nice enough Bach Harpsichord to get the day going in the office - Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos
You don’t see a lot of Slade around these parts:
“Look at last night” is extremely prescient.

Yes this has been posted a lot and I posted it yesterday which is probably bad form. But you really should not let this one slip through your fingers as I nearly did until Ewen prodded me to give it a go.
This gentleman is ridiculously talented. Every single track is a belter. After the first listen I just couldn't pin it down to a genre, and on second listen there is good reason. Bently mixes Soul, Rock and Blues, there is even a track with a Reggae vibe and a track with some great rap. He his comfortable belting out a rock anthem, then switches effortlessly to an emotional ballad.
Find of the year for me, can't wait for the CD to arrive.
Once again, thanks Ewen, but you really should start putting 'belter' warnings on your postings.
I think this is quite appropriate - as it let's people notice some new music they wouldn't always automatically listen to. And if it's as good as this, it is not bad to spread the word... The directness of the voice and the music gives me a bit a feeling of what happened when I listened to the
Rag'n'Bone Man
for the first time.... I will get the album. While it was not so easy to find it I found a flac version for download at 7digital. Besides all the illegal links which show up.
Always good to here their Greatest Hits - Playing on Cassette TDK AD - X
Gary Moore - Ballads & Blues.
Another one of several which arrived from The River today, now ripped and playing on my old skool NDS.
A complication of some of Gary's finest work, and something of a steal at a squid and and a half.

Erm, that's "compilation" rather than the above, which would be something else entirely ................ bloomin' autofill ............. well,
that's my excuse anyway.
Good sixth album by The Flaming Groovies - Playing on Cassette on a Maxell ULS X C60
Now playing........
Azimuth - Départ
John Taylor (piano, organ), Norma Winstone (voice), Kenny Wheeler (fluegelhorn, trumpet), and Ralph Towner (12 string and classical guitar).
Streaming on NAS......... received this CD in the mail yesterday, a 1994 release which contained 3 albums, Azimuth, Départ, & The Touchstone. Taking the 'Départ' album out for a spin which was originally a 1980 release.
......sounding mighty sweet!
You can almost hear Adam and Dave playing.

Blimey Dave, I was robbed, the river charged me £1.85. Still not bad considering the quality of this wonderful compilation!

Much better than his first E.P. which had some of the numbers off this album done acoustically.
An artist to watch
Where can it be purchased please.
Try fish records £11.99
You can also buy this on the river through their international sales (sent from USA) for £7.50 plus approx £3 postage. Bargain of the year if you ask me!
The 'river' appears to be selling CD-R copies of the album though……………….
Enjoying a mellow afternoon waiting for the drizzle to stop.

Diane Schuur - "Deedles" (1984) I believe she was based out of Seattle and I was fortunate to see here live in Pdx with the Tom Grant Band about the time this was released. Pretty darn good singer.
I am sure I have a disc with her and BB King on it somewhere in the house. Need to track it down.
That would be this one (which I have not heard):

My copy was ordered from Am**on UK but is being supplied by Am**on US and the format is described as Audio CD. So hopefully not a cheapo copy.
If this is not the case I will report back but I have never had any problems with CDs bought from the river other than one or two not turning up which were either credited or (re)despatched immediately.

Looks like bad news, Nigel, here's the spiel on The River UK.
"When sold by Amazon.com, this product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply."
Should that prove to be the case, it'll be going straight back, and I'll re-order it once the album officially appears here.
Cheeky bu**ers!

Ummm.....must admit that most CDs I have bought from the river have been preloved so not produced by them on CD-R.
I am tempted to listen to it first and if the quality is not up to scratch I will return it if allowed in their conditions. If not allowed it will go straight back.
Thanks Wugged Woy for pointing this out. The line about CD-R being provideed on demand is in small italic font at the very bottom of the product page. I wouldn't mind so much if this were made plain up front in the format description for example.
Cheeky bu**ers indeed!

Dave, I am irritated by this. Yes, they do mention CD-R production but you really have to look carefully down to the bottom of the page. No mention of CD-R in the Format description at the top of the page.
I have decided to return my copy unopened so as not to contravene their (probably hidden) return conditions and buy it from Fish Records in the U.K. The album looks like the real deal there with a catalog number for £11.99 and free delivery.
Hope I am not breaking any forum rules here but I don't want others to be caught out like I was. This album is far to good to be shafted with a sub-standard (re)production.
Red Garland - All mornin' long
