Another great compilation
Not heard in ages - quite a sin....
New discovery for me... will definitively check out part 1 too
First run on this one - seems to be a very enjoyable classic trio much to my taste...
Emma Jean Thackray - Ley Lines EP - less classic jazz music but not less interesting. London rules atm
Mary Lattimore combining harp and electronics in an entertaining way
Mike McCartney - McGear. an underated album released in 1974 that sounds like it belongs with the early Wings releases with Paul McCartney's fingerprints all over it.
Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief, 1980s vinyl
The album that pretty much invented English folk-rock, a set of traditional folk songs and 3 originals, played by a superb band, Sandy Denny on vocals, Richard Thompson on lead, the great Dave Swarbrick on violin. The rock arrangements of the traditional numbers are so perfect that they sound like they’ve always been like that, with Denny and Thompson among the writers it’s not surprising that the original numbers are perfectly judged and sound both fresh and as if they could have been collected from the reference books.
It’s not just a historical document, an album that invented a genre half a century ago, it’s also a set of superb musicians and a great singer playing great songs, an album well worth listening to in 2018. (And it sticks with the Muswell Hill theme.)
oOoOO & Islamiq Grrrls - fresh sounds beyond all categories
Time for a classic - The Boys debut
Leading to this...
"Drummer wanted. Young, slim, must look, act and think like a star. No beards, no chrome-domes, no fatties.” – so ran The Hollywood Brats’ infamous 1972 advert in Melody Maker. Born out of the imagination of singer Andrew Matheson and his musical ally and partner in grime Casino Steel, the band went on to lay the foundations of what would become punk rock, guzzling up every gallon of glitter juice they could blag and leaving no stiletto unturned along the way. London’s hottest nightspots became their playground, Keith Moon their cheerleader and every record label in town detested them. Freddie Mercury was punched in the face and Malcolm McLaren sent home disappointed as The Brats moved at the speed of light through a London that was doing its best to remember how it’d swung."
Time to go to bed....with celtic soul inspired folk from Belfast
