On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.

Last year's thread can be found here:

I am really liking this. Another great band that have passed me by.

Jeff, I know it can be a pain explaining the '....why....?' of this thread, but it was your last comment that made this an irresistible first listen for me. Without a comment, I may well have overlooked this talented band. I guess I need to be more inquisitive.

As always, thanks to you from this music lover for posting on here.

There have need a number of mentions of 10,0000 Manics and Natalie Merchant, which has inspired me to play this album.

It's a little quirky but patience will be rewarded handsomely. This is one of my dessert island disc's without hesitation.

I was lucky enough to catch her when she toured this album in Oct 2010, whilst on holiday in NYC. I traveled out to Morristown NJ. What a fabulous concert!

Lyle Lovett - Joshua Judges Ruth

All done with the usual LL style and wit. What I love about this gentleman is that he doesn't take himself too seriously and his music is the better for it. He's still a serious artist, make no mistake.

I agree, Jeff. A super band who make lovely, catchy interesting and enjoyable different (world+?) music initially recorded at home I believe. This reminds me that I must give their latest album another go as maybe I was playing it on an "off day" when it  didn't grab me the way their first two did.

Cheers

I love this. Ariel Posen, who has joined the band, is one of the finest fingerstyle open-tuning blues/jazz guitarists there is. Check him out demonstrating Lowden guitars on the tube.
