What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Vinyl released 2013 - Love her music. ????
Starting with the end of what I am currently listening to. The new one of this super trio from Luxembourg- if you don’t know them go on Tidal and listen. This album is more power trio jazz than before, fits well so far I like it a lot...
This one I listened late this morning connected to their other album, Lao a highly recommended jazz ensemble...
After that I got into a Deep Purple mood...
With one of their greatest songs Mistreated, while I prefer live versions..
An album with quite a number of highlights, while I still prefer the live albums...
Small EP ok, but not remarkable...
Had also a listen to this while downloading and tagging other albums, the use of the forte piano and the playing of Kristian is making this a special treat. While I am normally not into in fortepiano...

It will most probably land in my top five of Jazz this year. It’s a bit early I know - but this is great...
Keith Jarrett - Vienna concert
Vinyl released 2015 - Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala pays homage to Lennon. Fine album ????
Tori Amos - "Unrepentant Geraldines" (2014)
Good album by Blues man Little Axe. It 's mixed by top producer Adrian Sherwood - Playing on Compact Disc on Wired Records 1996.
(1995)
Steely Dan - Katy Lied
As with all the Dan's albums this is very well recorded, they were fastidious and meticulous in all they did in the studio. This one ripped from a fine sounding original (1985) MCA Records label CD

I remember an interview with Fagen that was very scathing of the production of Katy Lied - putting it down to Becker's fixation with the then new DBX companding equipment that was supposed to increase the available dynamic range, but achieved the opposite. The 1999 remaster sounds pretty good though. And the music, despite being the first of the really smooth Dans, is top rate, and one of my favourite (though that's a very very movable feast).

Thanks, Nick, that's interesting. The dynamic range of this is well up there with their earlier albums 14/15, I've got the remasters and Citizen Steely Dan 4 CD compendium and still prefer this early MCA CD. I guess it comes down to different lugs processing the music slightly differently? I hope you're keeping well and going forward with the house move.
4 track 12” vinyl from the Dan released 1977
Bert Schurink posted:Luke Howard is a remarkable musician. Some years ago I was championing his magnificent trio jazz album, which a lot of you picked up. Now he has again moved on on the other side of him, atmospheric neonclassical music - almost like a soundtrack of a film. Again a nice album...
Ooh, didn’t know he had a new one out so thanks Bert. Just downloaded it from Qobuz and on first listen sounding rather fine.
Kevin-W posted:Just back from me 'ols, and what could be better from blowing away those "Just Got Back From My Holiday" Blues than a bit of Bobbie G on vinyl? This gets better every time one hears it.
Kevin, I love your posts particularly of Bobby Gentry - you must recommend your Desert Island Disc. I promise to buy it!

Aki Rissanen - Another north
Nice modern jazz from Finland.
Aki Rissanen: piano; Antti Lötjönen: bass; Teppo Mäkynen: drums.
(1994)
Portishead - Dummy
Why? Because it's a fabulous album (and a debut album to boot!) Beth Gibbons vocals capping off great trip hop, cool downtempo stuff, a classic in my books.

Genesis - Nursery Cryme
I was in the mood for some good old prog' rock and this one sprang to mind.Celebrating the end of another fine hot sunny day and having narrowly avoided the thunder storms that swept up past us to the west heading north.
Steve, it’s a day later and I have been gardening all day and am now on my third glass of Sauvignon Blanc listening to this after a lengthy power off on Thursday because of the lightening and visiting my son and family in Winchester. It is sounding mighty fine! at higher than normal volume waiting from my wife to return from a Clout Shoot at Meriden, the centre of England!
Nothing wrong with a power out. The opening is stunning because of the delicacy of the instruments and his voice before they go absolutely wild for awhile before the return to tick tick and then wild again!
It grows on you! Apologies to Tony but it’s a while!

Vinyl released 2014 - Don’t have to be a jazzer to like this one.????
Mark Knopfler
Tracker - 24/96
I have a Nova on loan from my local Naim dealer until Tuesday, now that I have settled into my new home I am ready to upgrade and move back to a Naim system.
First up this great album from mark, and it is sounding absolutely brilliant.
