On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Now Playing.........
Eberhard Weber - Colours - Yellow Fields
Eberhard Weber (bass), Charlie Mariano (soprano saxophone, shenai, nagaswaram), Rainer Brüninghaus (keyboards), and Jon Christensen (drums).
Streaming on NAS........ Finishing up with the Trilogy that makes up the Colours release of Little Movements, Silent Feet & Yellow Fields. If you do not own any albums of Eberhard's then the Colours release is nice starting point.
Meadow - Blissful Ignorance
It's got Seakayaker, Bert and many others written all over it
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Smith's Jazz programme on R3 tonight at midnight, features Max Roach. And there's iPlayer etc for those who don't want to stay up.
Crosby Stills & Nash - Allies, original U.K. vinyl
CSN live album, a couple of tracks from 1982, a couple of studio tracks. I love this album, it’s a mish-mash, but some great guitar from Stills, some trademark harmonies, a set of great songs, and fine sidiss around Stills and Nash’s lead and rhythm guitars. And Crosby is genuinely amazing on his version of Joni’s For Free.
I read Thomas Dolby's book - The Speed of Sound: Breaking the Barriers Between Music and Technology: A Memoir, whilst on holiday and it reminded me to give this album a listen when i got home.
Thomas Dolby - The Flat Earth
PS - the book is excellent too.
Now Playing.......
Eberhard Weber - The Colors of Chloe
Eberhard Weber (bass, cello, ocarina), Rainer Brüninghaus (piano, synthesizer), Peter Giger (drums, percussion), Ralf-R. Hübner (drums), and Ack van Rooyen (flugelhorn).
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River, 1978 Canadian vinyl
A big sticker on the front tells me I bought this for 45p, a serious bargain. CCR were a great band at this point, telling songs of low-rent America, Fogerty wrote brilliant songs, played a mean guitar, and also sang them superbly, and the rest of the band weren’t just bit-players. Bad Moon Rising is deservedly a rock-radio classic, Lodi is a wonderful song of (nearly) lost dreams. Fine swamp-hippie rock album.
24/96 FLAC from Qobuz. Uniti Nova (2.3.8574)/NAP 250/Epos ES14, streamed from NAS.
Currently on offer there - £10.99 Hi Res (£5.49 for Sublime subscribers :-) ).
Following suit....
Now Playing.....
Kristjan Randalu - Absence
Kristjan Randalu (piano), Ben Monder (electric guitar), and Markku Ounaskari (drums).
Streaming on NAS........ Moving on from Eberhard but keeping with the ECM records theme for the time being. I picked this album up a couple of months ago when it was released in April. Another plus of using a service like TIDAL to trial a release prior to purchase. Enjoy Kristjan's music and this is a fine trio that blends together very nicely, worth a listen if you have not given it a listen yet.
Led Zeppelin, How the West was Won, original (2018) UK vinyl
Fancied some Zep when I saw this box out of the corner of my eye, picked a record at random, album 3, so just finished Stairway. Awesome stuff, Percy is a great vocalist on a roll here, Jimmy Page a master guitarist, Bonzo and JPJ are the perfect rhythm section and so much more, both able and willing to become the lead voice with drums or bass, the whole band able to do anything the music needs, I just find myself absorbed, complex sophisticated music with rock bravura.
Now Playing.......
Theo Blackman - Elegy
Theo Bleckmann (voice), Ben Monder (guitar), Shai Maestro (piano), Chris Tordini (double bass), and John Hollenbeck (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL...... Searched for another album with Ben Monder and this popped up, so taking it out for a spin. A January 2017 release.......
Bowie - Ziggy - Vinyl
Gave it a loud play because it deserves it.
Christy Moore - On The Road, original vinyl
Last before bed, 3rd disc from 3 album set, great Irish folk-rock pioneer live versions of his most loved songs, with crack small and medium bands. Great songs brilliantly played and sung.
Effortless from the artists, lovely late night listening.
Qobuz 24/96 FLAC. Uniti Nova (2.3.8574)/NAP 250/Epos ES14, streamed from NAS.
Currently on offer at Qobuz - £21.99 Hi Res (£10.99 for Sublime subscribers).
Now Playing.......
Ben Monder - Amorphae
Ben Monder (electric guitar, electric baritone guitar), Pete Rende (synthesizer), Andrew Cyrille (drums), and Paul Motian (drums).
Streaming on Tidal....... Recently played this album and taking out for another spin, quite enjoyable!
Such a good album...
Now Playing.......
Azimuth - Azimuth
John Taylor (piano, synthesizer), Norma Winstone (voice), and Kenny Wheeler (trumpet, fluegelhorn).
Streaming on NAS....... Resent purchase and taking out for another spin, a fantastic album, the trio support each other so well, one 'ell of a album, worth a listen!
Now Playing.......
Billie Marten - Writing of Blues And Yellows
Streaming on NAS......... An album I have not played for awhile, when the first track started playing the first thought was I need to listen Billie more often, her voice just grabbed my attention. Lovely album to play while dinner prep is underway..........

Oh hell yes!
Now Playing.........
John Hiatt - Terms of My Surrender
Streaming on NAS......... Arrived today, ripped to NAS and now taking out for a spin. I listened to this album a couple of times on TIDAL and enjoyed quite a bit and decided to add it to the collection. A mighty sweet album......
Sgt Pepper because I've had 'Fixing a Hole' on repeat play in my head and I'm hoping that playing the album will cure it!
I don't play this that often, but boy is it good!
