What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Elvin Jones - It don't mean a thing
Elvin Jones has participated in many recording sessions through the years, but this CD is one of the most well-rounded sets he has ever led. The lineup of musicians is very impressive: trumpeter Nicholas Payton, Sonny Fortune on tenor and flute, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, pianist Willie Pickens, bassist Cecil McBee, and vocalist Kevin Mahogany. Everyone plays up to their potential and the material has plenty of variety, ranging from Monk, Ellington, and Strayhorn to a traditional Japanese folk song arranged by Elvin's wife, Keiko ("A Lullaby of Itsugo Village"), two features for Mahogany (a touching version of "Lush Life" and his scat-filled "Bopsy"), and some authentic-sounding R&B (Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come"). Payton, Marsalis, and Fortune are not on every selection, but each have their chance to shine while pianist Willie Pickens is showcased with the trio on a medley of "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing" and "Ask Me Now." And as for the drummer, there is still no one around who has captured the sound and spirit of Elvin Jones.

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Revelator, a great album, I must play "Midnight in Harlem" every week
Just to feed your habit with IMHO opinion is the best version of the song. He just nails that solo. The whole concert was excellent.
John Mayer - Battles Studies, backed by a great rhythm section of Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino.
Now I must watch that video that Ewemon has kindly posted

Not sure why he didn't use it on the Live album as the whole concert was recorded for possible Live release.
My Sunday afternoon guilty pleasure. Start with Guy Garvey on 6 music and then at 3pm, turn over to Johnnie Walker's Sounds of the 70s. I was too young in the 70s to really appreciate the music so i do love listening to this program and normally end up on Amazon spending too much money
Johnnie Walker - Sounds of the 70s (Radio 2)

Tori Amos - "American Doll Posse" (2007) Today is a no "Why" day.
Playing on Vinyl on Smoking Records 2013 - A Good Radio Broadcast from 1971 with Special guest Gerry Garcia from The Greatful Dead
Having a very pleasant Daddies Day, made a fuss of & a superb classic Sunday lunch. Its been topped off by Mrs Mike going off & leaving me all alone & lonesome while she to goes to see Gary Barlow at Blenheim. My afternoon started by reliving some of my yoof with David Crosby 'If Only I Could Remember My Name', then Ten Years After & 'Undead - Live at Klooks Kleek' I was at the recording, am now browsing a few Henrix. ........... I might just need to start on the very nice selection of local IPA's & bitters I was gifted this morning ............. its a hard life.
(1969 | 2008)
Led Zeppelin II
It's been a while so I really have to give this a run out, an album that I've never tired of listening to in nearly fifty years. This was a revelation when it first arrived on the scene, sounding great from the SHMCD 2008 Definitive Collection box set.

Good stuff James, I remember listening to Johnnie (and many other DJs) live on pirate radio late at night under the bed covers with a little hand size radio and a single earpiece. The music they played was often not on mainstream radio so this was a window on a whole new world to me as a youngster in the early sixties.
Cheers
One of builder Bob's suggestions. I played this yesterday, but it really is a great album, so why not? Actually I'd guess that it's one of my top 50 jazz albums.
Time to celebrate Mexico beating Germany by giving one of my fave albums a spin. On a superb-sounding RCA CD from 2000:

Paul Hamner - Trains To Taung
Jeff A says we don't have to say 'Why..?' today. But I should thank Bert for pointing this one out a while ago.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads on the forum.
Hans Dulfer& Cyril Directie – Duo Dulfer Directie
Nice funky jazz with tenor sax and drums as the primairy instruments (and with guest artist on some tracks).

If (and it's a big if) I go to heaven, I want to play like that. Sublime!
