It’s pretty full on, isn’t it. Liking it so far, though the singing isn’t to my taste particularly.

Now Playing........

Jan Galbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble - Mnemosyne

Jan Garbarek - Mnemosyne

Jan Garbarek  (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone), The Hilliard Ensemble: David James  (countertenor), John Potter  (tenor), Rogers Covey-Crump  (tenor), and Gordon Jones  (baritone).

Streaming on TIDAL...... Settling in this gray overcast cool morning to some comfortable soothing music to ease me into this day. Love Jan's series with the The Hilliard Ensemble which is brightening the start of the day to match the forecast for sunshine and warm temperatures to follow latter in the day.

Hi Nick,

it's a good mate of mine who encouraged me to listen to Kamasi Washington, I'll be honest and say Jazz is not really my bag at all. I really have to be in a certain mood/frame of mind and even then I cannot listen for any real length of time. Just find it all too noisy with the individual musicians trying to top trump each other.

I like the 70's kung fu type of vibe to Fists of Fury.

Well this is quite good. Never heard of her before but streamed from Tidal and I liked it.

Marvellous voice and phrasing. Pretty good songs, just something not quite right in some of the production/arrangements stopping it from being a stunner, but otherwise real promise.

Hmm, not so sure about this one. Liked his last, shorter, effort lots though.

Initial impression from first three tracks is that this initially seems rather OTT in the self indulgence department.

Anthony Hamilton - Ain't Nobody Worryin'

Just as Anthony seduces the listener with the smoothest of smooth soul tracks, he whacks you around the head with a track like 'Preacher's Daughter', then a lovely reggae vibe with 'Everybody'. This bloke is one talented dude. Not a duff track here.

Gonna get me one of those cool red turtleneck jumpers.....ooh and one of those caps.

For me (one who comes at Jazz from a rock angle) Kamasi Washington is on the borders. I got and love about 2/3rds of The Epic and all of the Harmony Of Difference E.P., but I do have to be in the zone for it though.

Thought his Glastonbury set was the dog’s as well though.

The Gloaming, some of Ireland’s finest trad session musicians came together for this album, produced by Thomas Bartlett and released on Peter Gabriel’s Real World, a fantastic album, trad with a twist.

The summer of ‘79 saw this getting lots of play on a Rega 2, Nad 3020 & Kef Coda.  When the sun comes out I give it the occasional airing to rekindle memories of carefree days.

This was one of the first real jazz albums I bought. I think I bought all the albums from which tracks were picked for this compilation and my jazz collection took off exponentially from there. It's a great selection which I rarely play these days, but on this gorgeous summer evening it's going down just fine - with a Pimms and lemonade!

Thomas Bartlett (piano), Dennis Cahill (guitar), Martin Hayes (fiddle), Iarla Ó Lionáird (vocals), and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh (Hardanger d'Amore [10-string fiddle]).

Streaming on TIDAL.........  Enjoyed the 1st Gloaming album and taking their next album, titled "2," out for a spin. Interesting mix of traditional Irish folk & original compositions. I wouldn't touch his stuff with a barge pole after his appalling stunt with one of his fans recently.

(Sorry to sound negative, especially as it was a Father's Day gift, I considered buying that album in HMV recently, but didn't for the reason above).
