Rickie Lee Jones - the other side of DESIRE
Streaming on NAS........ Arrived in the afternoon mail, ripped to NAS and Rickie is sounding mighty sweet!
Just gave it a go. Good, mellow, morning tunes. Streamed from Tidal.
Hot in the office this lunchtime what better than some classic rock to perk us up - Playing on Compact Disc on Harvest Records 1970......so many classic tracks.....Child in time...
Ken McIntyre - Looking ahead.
If you like Eric Dolphy, you probably will like this one as well.
- Alto Saxophone, Flute – Ken McIntyre
- Alto Saxophone, Flute, Bass Clarinet – Eric Dolphy
- Bass – Sam Jones
- Drums – Arthur Taylor
- Piano – Walter Bishop, Jr.
More from the Jack White love-in: on double vinyl.

Tomasz Stanko - Leosia
Tomasz Stanko (trumpet), Bobo Stenson (piano), Anders Jormin (double-bass), and Tony Oxley (drums).
Streaming on NAS......... Starting the day with Tomazs Stanko Quartet's "Morning Heavy Song" because the title captures my mood and I also enjoy Tomasz's music quite a bit and hopes it lightens me up before I have to head out the door.
Lovely summery soul-pop-reggae fusion, perfect for a day like this (before an afternoon and evening of football). On Uk first press vinyl:
Playing on Compact Disc on Elektra Records 1990 - A great House - Pop - Classic from Deelite - Groove is in the heart was the big track on it
Kaleidoscope: Piano Encores - Shura Cherkassky (piano)
The age of piano encores seems to have died away in the last decades but for this pianist these still largely remain the vitally important chocolate sprinkles in his healthy listening diet. Today one can still rely on say Stephen Hough and maybe even Marc-Andre Hamelin who have the ability to pull them off but their are few others.
Cherkassky was a pianist in that wonderful group which we refer to as the Pianists from the Golden Age. Too many to name but for perspective, Horowitz died in 1989, Cherkassky died in 1990, and Bolet in 1995.
Kaleidoscope is the name of a piece written by Josef Hofmann and this was a notoriously difficult piece that Cherkassky essentially made into a signature piece for himself. Cherkassky studied with Hofmann at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and as expected this relationship was strong and fruitful. Incidentally, Cherkassky auditioned for Rachmaninov before Hofmann accepted him and apparently things didn't go well. Rachmaninov recommended that he take two years off and work on his posture.
Cherkassky had a formidable technique (largely due to practicing four hours per day throughout his life) and was a wonderful communicator of largely Romantic period repertoire. Refreshingly modest, he never proselytized to others on how to play and did not teach claiming that it was impossible for him to teach others to play when he himself had only a limited understanding of how he was able to do what he did.

What a great track Groove is in the heart is and what great memories it provokes for me. Not sure if any of you were familiar with Jackie O night club in Kirkcaldy Fife. I worked for Granada Entertainment for a couple of years. Around this time I was Manager of this night club and that was a popular play for quite a while. I just sent my 200 off to Naim for a service and as my final piece of music I played Fern Kinney - Groove Me - 12" single. Fabulous track that was played often. Played it because I love it and I'll use it to help judge what I've gained with the service. Music can provike great memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As Kev is having a Jack White fest this afternoon it has sown the seeds for getting this Gem off the shelf.......WOW ! what a classic - Playing on Compact Disc on XL Records 2004
Not their best but a good album...
Just Finishing........
Dominic Miller - Silent Light
Dominic Miller (guitar, electric bass) and Miles Bould (drums, percussion).
Streaming on NAS....... A very enjoyable album and love the interplay between these two musicians, one enjoyable album and fit right into place this morning.......
Now Playing.........
Wayne Horvitz and Sweeter Than the Day - A Walk in the Dark
Wayne Horvitz (piano), Timothy Young (electric guitar), Keith Lowe (contrabass), and Eric Eagle (drums).
Streaming on NAS.......... Love Wayne & Sweeter Than the Day and this is one sweet album! Just perfect, picking up the good vibes!
Nice minty UK first press vinyl. It's been too long since I last played this. The second side, in particular, is some of the most extraordinary music of its time. The sound of a world slowly running out of energy and falling into entopy, a kind of emotional absolute zero:
Double vinyl released 2007 - A very impressive debut album.????
(2009)
Airbag - Identity
Fine contemporary prog 'n art rock from this fine Norwegian band.

Is this any good Tony, what do you reckon?

I started this post on the 3rd track, the album has just finished. I guess it really caught my attention.
Yet another one for me to check out, thanks Simon.
(2011)
Pat Metheny - What's It All About
Just ahead of the match tonight and with the temperature finally cooling, some fine unaccompanied Metheny acoustically covering some great tunes.
Greg Burk - Clean spring
Solo jazz piano music by Greg Burk. If you like Paul Bley, you might also like this music. Paul Bley was the musical mentor of Greg Burk. This recording is a mix of precomposed songs by Greg Burk and improvisations.
Born To Run (1975) Original vinyl. Not bad, some songs on it are maybe over compressed. Born to Run (the track), sounds great.

Steve, Mick Moss's Heartfelt lyrics and vocals are so emotional they get me every time I play this. The music is not over complicated or flash, it just fits beautifully. Amélie Festa sings on 3 tracks and these fit ok, but you can tell they were recorded elsewhere.
Its been another scorching day, which reminds me of hot summer festivals and Mr Hillage's music is so perfect for the festival mood.

Thanks Simon, I've just added it to a Qobuz play queue and may well have a listen after I've walked the new addition to the family when it finally cools down here.
I'm The Man (1979). Original vinyl. The music works for me, sound quality is very good.
