On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
I've been playing a lot of Trane lately having seen McCoy Tyner last month and then in anticipation of the new album. I don't, however, have this in my collection and have been listening to this on YouTube. I shall have to correct this dreadful omission.
Double vinyl 45rpm reissue released 2012 - Superb live set. ????
Dexter Gordon, tenor saxophone
Kenny Drew, piano
Nils Henning Orsted Pederson, bass
Albert 'Tootie' Heath, drums

Bob Dylan - Tempest, worth the price for "Duquesne Whistle alone.
Brilliant track. The original, by Belmont Tench, who wrote the song, is also great.
I believe it was co-written by Bob Dylan and Robert Hunter.
Dylan's version is the original. Tench's version is from 2014 I believe.
Thanks for the correction. Don't know how I mixed that up. And it should be 'Benmont'.

First Coltrane album I ever bought and still a favourite. I remember hearing Afro Blue one evening (in 1965?) on a low-res foreign radio station and being transfixed.
various line-ups used on this album, although Tyner and Jones are ever present.
Many forum members will recall from 2013 this cheap-as-chips but superb-sounding 9-CD box set (containing 15 albums).
Here's a real classic from that box: The complete album plus 11 bonus tracks, sounding great...
Now Playing......
Adrian Crowley - Some Blue Morning
Streaming on TIDAL........ Went out for a 90 minute walk and now continuing on with another Adrian Crowley album which was mentioned by DAN STEEL above..... Enjoyed the first album and enjoyed the opening track on 'Some Blue Morning' as well!
Ben Webster & Dexter Gordon - Baden 1972
- Bass – Bo Stief
- Drums – Ed Thigpen
- Piano – Kenny Drew
- Tenor Saxophone – Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon
Now Playing.......
John Abercrombie - November
John Abercrombie (guitar), Marc Johnson (bass), Peter Erskine (drums), and John Surman (baritone saxophone, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet).
Streaming on TIDAL........ Taking this album from John Abercrombie out for a spin. Recently listed to 'Open Land' and enjoyed it enough to purchase a copy and thought I would explore a bit more of John's catalogue.
(2011)
EFFS (Erren, Fleissig, Schöttler, Steffen) - Ouddorp Tapes
Just back from a fine, warm, sunny day of golf up Glenshee into Ballater. This is a really fine ambient electronic album in the Berlin school style it's a happy mix of laid back and yet softly punchy and engaging, which probably makes no sense at all having read it back but I'll stick with it, probably still my favourite album of theirs.
I haven't checked Tidal or Quobuz but you can certainly get a listen via bandcamp which, depending or your tastes and mood, could well be worth your while.
Sunjay - Black & Blues - WAV CD rip
I’ve spent the last 3 evenings at a local music festival, this young man played. A very impressive acoustic blues player, sings pretty well. picks superbly, this is a disc of classics, well played and sung.
Double vinyl 45rpm reissue released 2012 - Great live set. ????
- Bass – Niels Henning Ørsted Pederson
- Drums – Albert "Tootie" Heath
- Piano – Kenny Drew
- Tenor Saxophone – Johnny Griffin
I frequently think that Mobley is outplayed by the excellent playing of Wynton Kelly and Grant Green on this album. Whatever, it's an extremely fine disc.
Graham Nash, Over the Years CD 1, WAV CD rip
Graham Nash retrospective, just out, CSN and Nash solo songs, in what sound like the originals, great California folk-rock Songs. Disc 2 is a set of rare demos of similar songs, looking forward to that tomorrow.
Following Workout with Roll Call. Not quite as interesting as Workout IMO.
Sound's quite good, I don't listen to jazz much at all (I think this is jazz no?) I know Lucinda though. So I listened to her great album Car Wheels On A Gravel Road after Charles Lloyd.
Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On A Gravel Road (1998). CD rip.
Playing on Vinyl on Rhino Records 1986 - Good album by American West Coast Psychedelic Paisley Underground Girls The Pandoras.
Ray Davies - Our Country, Americana II, WAV CD rip
Latest issue from the great singer songwriter from the Kinks, 1stnplay. A concept album, about America, so far Imthink it may be a grower. It’s got some pretty good songs, insightful, lyrics, hasn’t grabbed me as much as Americana did, but I’ll give it a few more, spins, ImsuspectnI’ll get dragged in.

Personally I think it is his best album. Raw and rocking. I have 2 copies of the cd.
Never thought their studio albums did them justice as live they were excellent.

Must dig-out that box-set again.
Playing on Vinyl on Sundazed Records 1966 - Great Live Set by The Standells with a great cover of Gloria
Recorded for Capitol Radio in 77 and released as a Live album.
Great set and would have loved to have seen them during this period.
