On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Vinyl released 1981 - Great debut album from David Lindley. I’ve always liked this guy from his work with Kaleidoscope to his session work with Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder, CSNY etc. A very underrated guitarist, El Rayo-X live is another great album.
Like wise Dan in the 80's REM where my favourite band and like you saw them about 10 times up to Green. My best REM gig was seeing them on their only UK date at Hammersmith Odeon London on the Document tour in 1987 they where incredible that night. Also a couple of days before I was at a Flaming Groovies gig at Dingwalls in London and very near me in the audiance was Mike Mills,Peter Buck and Andy Kershaw the d.j so that was special.Looking back I wish I had said hello but didn't want to bother them.
Agree with what you said after Green they became a arena band and I suppose they where on such a creative peak in terms of sales etc....I think calling Automatic for the people was very tounge in cheek.Like you Dan I still loved them but the intimate magic of their early gigs was history.

It was this specific recording that turned me from a “Bach MUST be played on a harpsichord” person to a “Whoops, I was wrong” person.
