On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Vinyl released 1981 - A jazz album with great taste, musicianship and inspired compositions, arrangements and playing. Great stuff ????
A mix of hip hop and jazz, not so my cup of tea....
Tord Gustavsen Ensemble - Restored, Returned
A sombre start to the day. But bass and piano driving it all along nicely.

Goldfrapp - Silver Eye (2017) 24/44 flac. Someone mentioned this group a few pages ago, I like, so I bought. Turn it up.
Funny how so many contemporary artists feel they need to obscure their identity.
must be a sign of the age.......
Or a sign or her age:>
Thad Jones - The magnificent Thad Jones
Great jazz from Thad jones and his quintet. Recorded in 1956. Recommended if you like be bop jazz.
- Bass – Percy Heath
- Drums – Max Roach
- Piano – Barry Harris
- Tenor Saxophone – Billy Mitchell
- Trumpet – Thad Jones
Rush, Power Windows.
Ripped from an original release CD, this is sounding mighty fine, even playing at a fairly low volume the music still has impact.
Rush, Grace Under Pressure.
Continuing with some 1980's Rush.
Soothing Lute And Mandolin from Vivaldi - Playing on Compact Disc on Deautche Grammophon
David Bowie - Black Star. Vinyl, first pressing.
Arrived mid morning courtesy of a Discogs seller, so it’s the first play through and it mostly sounds very good, with a few occasional crackles in places - surprising for a newish LP.

She's 52 - but she still looks very good...
Wonderful CD of 1960s Californian sunshine pop, re-imagined and remixed by the likes of Stereolab, Caribou, Madlib, etc.

I can recommend the Verve Remixed collection
Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Curtis Fuller - Monday nights at the Birdland.
Birdland was the Mecca for most modernists of the 50s. It was the only club in New York City where a big band could play. Bookings were mostly for solid two-week periods. On Monday nights the regulars were off, and the legendary jazz disk jockey Symphony Sid (1909-1984) ran one of his jam sessions with young, upand-coming, cutting edge local musicians. Anything could happen and frequently did, as these outstanding performances, recorded on two consecutive Monday nights, on April 21 and 28 1958, show. Anyone who was anyone in 50s jazz was introduced by Symphony Sid at Birdland. Here Lee Morgan, not yet 20, gives notice of his exceptional talent, his trumpet clear, biting and full-toned. Trombonist Curtis Fuller, with his unique, French Horn-like sound, shows his flowing conception and great dynamic range. On tenor, Hank Mobley is all ease and authority, while Billy Root swings mightily. And the rhythm section drives them with strength and sensitivity throughout these invigoratingly cohesive blowing sessions by some of the stellar talents of the era.
- Bass – Tommy Bryant
- Drums – "Specs" Wright
- Piano – Ray Bryant
- Tenor Saxophone – Billy Root, Hank Mobley
- Trombone – Curtis Fuller
- Trumpet – Lee Morgan
Very nice sounding Light In The Attic Records vinyl reissue of classic French LP by the lovely Ms Hardy. In mono, to boot!
Playing On Cassette on TDK SA - X C90 - Flying Teapot by Gong from 1973 - Always good hearing them again as its been a good few years.Really enjoying their blend of Psychedelia
Now Playing......................
Mark Murphy - Once To Every Heart
Mark Murphy (vocals, piano 9), Till Bronner (trumpet & flugelhorn), Frank Chastenier (piano except 9), Christian von Kaphengst (acoustic bass 1,3-5,7,9), and Nan Schwartz (orchestra arranger and conductor, string orchestra 1,3-5,7,9)
Streaming on NAS......... A recent purchase from Fat Cat Records and now taking out for a spin. The opening number "I'm Tough With Love" is a slow and easy with lovely orchestration and perfect to start off this lazy hazy cool and comfortable Friday morning. Mark and the band is sounding mighty sweet!
Punch The Clock (1983) vinyl. This is sounding quite good after all these years. "Everyday I Write the Book" was his first top 40 single in the US.
I am partial to a bit of swelling organ on a Friday afternoon:
Les McCann - On time
"In a different time, in a different place, I could see myself with you. In a different time, in a different place, oh I believe you could see yourself there too."
Yes, quite! My favourite JF album, Falling Forward. I'm justifying this indulgence by the fact that I'm still assessing the benefits of DR. On some albums the difference is obvious and beneficial.
Playing on Compact Disc - Getting dark with Depeches Ninth Studio album
Now Playing.......................
McCoy Tyner - The Real McCoy
McCoy Tyner (piano), Joe Henderson (tenor saxophone), Ron Carter (bass), and Elvin Jones (drums).
Streaming on NAS......... Another recent purchase from Fat Cat Records, opening track 'Passion Dance' really putting the incredibly fine piano playing of McCoy on display....... sounding mighty sweet!
The Gloaming
2 - 24/96
I have had this album for about a year after buying some B&W speakers for a friend but never got around to listening to it, after a couple of mention on this thread reminded me that I had it. Enjoying it so far, I am sure this will grow on me with more plays.
This is a band completely new to me.

You're winding me up. Let me guess: she's the new slim shady. Please stand up! sorry, Tj. She has the manufactured personality of a turnip!
