On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Oliver Nelson - The blues and the abstract truth

- Alto Saxophone, Flute – Eric Dolphy
- Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Oliver Nelson
- Baritone Saxophone – George Barrow
- Bass – Paul Chambers (3)
- Drums – Roy Haynes
- Piano – Bill Evans
- Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard

Toots & The Maytals - The Essential Collection.
Probably the finest Toots collection ........... chilling out, now that I've been reminded that my guitar skills don't quite match those of

Kevin, are you looking forward to the "White Album" box set that is planned ?
A masterpiece by The Byrds from 1966 - I think it dovetails The Beatles at the time with Revolver beautifully. As both The Beatles and The Byrds where getting more psychedelic with their song's music and lyric.Playing on Vinyl on Colombia Records - LP12 - Ittok - Decca London Supergold........sounding wicked

Sounding groovy surely.

I most certainly am, Alan - it's my fave Fabs record...
Alison Krauss - Windy City
More vinyl tonight.
This lady has a fantastic sounding voice and I completely understand why she is so popular with many forum members.
A great album.

Lyle Lovett - Pontiac on vinyl. Very good sound quality. Bit of a night for some mellow country / folk music accompanied by a Fullers 1845 ale.

Only my second listen to this but I sense already that this could be one of my best purchase of 2018.

The Beach Boys - 20 Golden Greats, reissue vinyl
Following ABBA with more pure perfection, from the sheer joy of early surf songs to the later sophisticated beauty, they harmonised wonderfully, wrote great songs, innovated and changed rock music, and they stayed fun and brilliant to listen to.

Mine too, I've still got my numbered first press (my second album after Help!) and purchased it on another four occasions ![]()
Kevin-W posted:Yetizone posted:What a cracking album! I've got two copies of Low (first press UK orange labels) and wondered if its worth hunting a Japanese copy over the UK release - esp given the prices now?
I've only got a handful of DB Japanese pressings - Dogs, Lets Dance and Tonight (yeah, I know, not his greatest!) and they generally seem better than my UK versions.
Yeti, I personally prefer the Japanese Bowies to many of the UK versions -I have Low, Lodger, Stage and Scary Monsters all on Japanese vinyl, and I like 'em all. The Low is especially good.
Thanks Kevin, ok time to start searching!
More 24/96 stereo music on BD. Again, it doesn't quite have the magic of vinyl...

Now Playing..........

John Surman - Saltash Bells
John Surman (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, harmonica, synthesizer)
Streaming on TIDAL......... Placed this in the TIDAL queue recently and now taking it out for a spin. John doing it all and it is quite pleasant........
David Bowie - Tonight. Japanese vinyl.

This perhaps not his finest LP, but Loving the Alien is just superb, also like Tonight as well, although the less said about Blue Jean the better! But despite the variable quality, it all does sound absolutely superb on this Japanese pressing.

Yeti, the less said about the version of "God Only Knows" the better too. Possibly the worst thing Bowie ever did.

Now... not trying to be unkind, Kev, but... It's a different format altogether. I saw the vinyl remaster you bought at your local "shop"l. Did not buy it because I already had the same, excellent as it was (remastered on CD). Never been a great fan of Japanese pressings, OBI or not, always preferring the original pressings but that's just me. Glad you're enjoying your new Oppo 205. Don't forget to keep them old records rolling though, will you!![]()

Bryan Ferry - As Time Goes By.

Songs as performed in the motion picture Easy Rider, 1981 vinyl reissue
A wonderful film showing the end of the hippy dream, the soundtrack was a major part. Roger McGuinn, Jimi, The Band (covered on the record), The Byrds, Steppenwolf, plus well chosen lesser lights. The beginnings of hard rock (Born to be Wild) and psychedelia, great music.

You haven't posted any tasteful covers from your collection recently...

And mine.

Closing out Saturday evening with a bit of Cookin', Steamin' and finally Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet.

CD. Giuseppe Torelli - Torelli Concertos - Simon Standage - Collegium Musicum 90
Andy Williams - Greatest Hits
I never thought for one second that I would be listening to this. It is a vinyl copy donated by my father in law several months ago.
It's actually in pretty decent condition and sounds good too. Who doesn't sing along to 'Can't take my eyes off you'.
