Released 1996 - Garrett creates a loving tribute, one that is respectful to Coltrane's legacy but one that doesn't mimic his sound. Great album..????
On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Prompted by Jeroen this fine album from 2015.
Now Playing.......
Tomasz Stanko - Suspended Nights
Tomasz Stanko (trumpet), Marcin Wasilewski (piano), Slawomir Kurkiewicz (double-bass) and Michal Miskiewicz (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL.......... Spending some time on this Sunday morning with the horn sections and the trumpets are sounding mighty sweet!
This masterwork from the delux version which is derived from a 1965 tape which lacked the equalisation and compression of earlier digital versions, which came from a flawed 1971 master tape. It is so much more pleasurable to listen to and seems to make more sense. I'll have to compare it with my vinyl copy to see which I prefer.

Fancied a bit of Zep this evening. Always thought that Black Dog was a terrific way to open, followed by the energetic Rock & Roll. And, of course, Stairway to Heaven is one of the classic Zep numbers.
Hans Teeuwen - Live in Amsterdam
Dutch comedian turns out to be a great jazz singer. He sings the classics from Sinatra, Billy Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. He has a great band backing him up.
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
The guy seems seems such a unique voice, playing the kind of music that should not be approached without a flagon of ale. Perhaps.
Released 2004 - The Fab Four jazz style, fine album.????
A couple of remixes (4 tracks) from Josefin Öhrn and The Liberation before the last game of the Algarve cup kicks off at eight o'clock.
UK first vinyl press, sounding fabulous on the turntable with whom they are associated.
CBS vinyl
Why? Because I'm having one.

Jeff Lynne - Armchair Theatre, cracking album of original songs with a couple of standards thrown in . Oh and some tasteful guitar playing from Nelson Wilbury on various tracks.
Winding down for the day, so this seems appropriate. On early 80s Editions EG vinyl:
Some nice relaxing Tangerine Dream from 1980 - Playing on Vinyl on Virgin Records
