What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
The Jet all start Quartet - Live at Jazz en tete.
Good hard bop by kenny Barron and his quartet.
- Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone – Gary Bartz
- Bass – Ray Drummond
- Drums – Ben Riley
- Piano – Kenny Barron
Carla Bley, Andy Sheppard, Steve Swallow - Trios. 88.2/24. An ECM 2012 nice recording.
Gregg Allman -Southern Blood, original vinyl
My album of 2017, one of the great rock vocalists pouring the last energy of his life into a set of well chosen covers, with a hot band supporting him brilliantly. Poignant singing by a master, the album is a masterpiece.
Freddie Hubbard - Ready for Freddie. 24/192 flac. A nice Blue Note album recorded 1961/62.
1968 - UK first(mono) pressing...
Arrived this afternoon. Sounds great after a good clean on the RCM. Not bad for an album turning 50 next week.
3 sided double vinyl released 2015 - Great stuff.
Chrstian Ferras, Karajan, BPO, Beethoven violin concerto, 1980s Korean vinyl (?)
1960s recording, the Berliners under Karajan are weighty and rhythmic, nice flowing interpretation from Ferras.
S Carey - Hundred Acres. Sean Carey is apparently the drummer with Bon Iver, but also has a solo career. This is a new acquisition with a very mellow sound and if you like Bon Iver I think you would enjoy this.
Cowboy Junkies - All That Reckoning (2018). This has been mentioned on here before, what a great album. Relaxing, chilled, comfortable, just add wine.
Fish
Return To Childhood - CD Rip
Edward
1976 - Vinyl - US first pressing..
Wasn’t edgy enough in 1983 to be into this, but what a fine debut album.
44/16 upscaled to DSD 512 via HQP poly-sinc-mp filter with ADSM7 modulation and sounding rather wonderful.

Two brilliant albums on one CD at a very good price. Just playing 'Dear John C' for the first time. Really good post-bop / hard bop album(s).
Kevin-W's recent praise of this album caused me to realise it was missing from my Bowie collection. That deficiency has now been corrected.
Fairpost Convention, Rising for the Moon, 1980s vinyl
A lovely folk rock album, several of Sandy Denny’s finest songs, and a beauty from Dave Swarbrick in White Dress. Sandy sings beautifully, Swarbrick is one of the great fiddlers, Jerry Donahue’s Telecaster is spellbinding, the rest of the band back them up well.
Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York
This is a great album and very easy to listen to. Kurt seemed to be having fun in between the tracks, a great sense of humour.
It's a shame he is no longer with us.
Elton John - Madman across the Water, a classic

Yep. And their cover of Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World is particularly enjoyable. Just given it a spin to remind myself.

Steeleye Span, Hark! The village wait. Streaming on Tidal although I do have a copy of the original 1970 vinyl bought by my older sister. Steeleyes debut album featuring Gay and Terry Woods, Gay Woods’ vocals distinctive as always, she went on to form eclectic rock band Auto da Fe back in Dublin in the early 80’s. Classic 70’s trad/folk sound with traces of Fairport and an electric twist
Moving on to 1984.

Norah Jones - Feels Like Home.
A near perfect double album if it had ended with Revolution Rock rather than the REO Speedwahonesque Train in Vain.
What an explosion though!

Aretha Franklin - A Brand New Me (2017). The album features archival vocal recordings that Franklin recorded for Atlantic Records accompanied by new orchestral arrangements by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Great voice and excellent SQ.
