On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Paul Simon - Negotiations and Love Songs 1971-1986, a superb early compilation with superior SQ.
Van Morrison - Keep Me Singing. Van Morrison - Born To Sing : No Plan B. Van Morrison - Back On Top.
Today's additions to my Van library just plopped through the letterbox, now ripped and streaming ............ great stuff ...............
and so cheap on The River.
Not sure why it's taken me so long to steep myself in Van's music, but I'm making up for lost time now!
Playing on Cassette on TDK SA X C60 - Do like side 1 with the choir - Pink Floyds Atom Heart Mother from 1970
On CD:-
Gorillaz - The Now Now
Playing on Original Cassette - Nice enough Wings album - Let them in - Is just so Beatles
Playing on Compact Disc - A great very mellow infusion of Jazz and Hip Hop from The Guru from 1995 - Loads of top guests which are all on the cover well worth checking out
Slim Harpo - The Best Of Slim Harpo.
Some late afternoon downbeat boogie 'n blues from Slim , who influenced so many bands of the so called British Blues Explosion era.
Though this one's not on Tidal, there's quite a few of his other albums on there, so have a listen to some smooth blues choons.
Danny Gatton - New York stories
Great hard bop jazz by Danny Gatton and his septet.
- Alto Saxophone – Bobby Watson
- Bass – Charles Fambrough
- Drums – Yuron Israel
- Guitar – Danny Gatton
- Piano – Franck Amsallem
- Tenor Saxophone – Joshua Redman
- Trumpet – Roy Hargrove
(2004)
Riverside - Out Of Myself
I've had this rather fine prog-rock/soft metal album on loop in the car this week and thought it really deserves a proper listen to indoors.

Yer not alone there Dave, it wasn't until these recent years that I've got into the Van.
Tabby cat posted:Really great Steve Hackett solo album from 1979.The track Spectral Mornings is a fine showcase for Steve's Guitar I saw him on that tour at Brighton Dome and had front row balcony seats and he was superb. One of the best PA's I've heard at a gig.Playing on Cassette on Maxell UL - S C60 on a hot old office afternoon
I totally agree with you. In my opinion this is probably his best studio album, surpassing even Voyage of the Accolyte. Superb recording too.
The original and best. The album with one of the longest introductions ever. I remember when this was considered very alternative, but it soon became an album which everyone had in their collection. This and DSOTM seemed to define the period. Still very good and giving the NBLs something to worry about.
Pink Floyd
Devi/Ation 1970 - 24/44.1

Sounds Like This
My favourite 'band find' of the year (thanks Ewen). The Hoax playing great British blues rock, all of their albums are absolute belters.
Bad Company - The "Original" Anthology.
One of UK's finest rock / blues voices on this double album, which contains all the Bad Co. you're ever likely to need ........... LOUD!
Bit of Zep in this, yet another, sultry evening.
I think the band's self-confidence really shows in this album. It has the effortless quality.
Boz Scaggs - Greatest Hits Live. You can also find this performance on the internet, which is where I heard it first. A recent CD purchase with (to me) a few surprises. I only knew Boz through his mid-70s output (Silk Degrees etc) but this album has a few blues tracks on it. It's all very good and has excellent sound quality. I love the bluesy introduction to Lido Shuffle - my wife heard this intro (when was checking it out on the internet) and looked up from her book fully expecting to see ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons!
EST - Winter in Venice
I do like this early stuff.
Earlier it was The War On Drugs - A Deeper Undertanding
I was sort of left wondering if they have a third album in them...
On vinyl...
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life.
Essential Iggy ...................... I'd guess this album holds so many different memories for so many different folks.
Antimatter - the Judas Table (2015). Moody, layered guitar with deep vocals.
Johann Johannsson - And in the endless pause there came the sound of bees. Yes well, quite a title but I’m a huge Johannsson fan, hard to believe he left us last year, wonderful introspective chill music, streaming on Tidal.
Steven Wilson – Hand. Cannot. Erase.
On vinyl...
This album holds a lot of memories, and is actually very good, Rio and Save a Prayer are standout tracks but several of the non-single release tracks are quite special, New Religion has a gorgeous funky bass line.
