Toots & The Maytals - The Essential Collection.

Still chillin' to the sounds of the Caribbean, and this 2 CD collection is probably all the Toots you'll ever need.

Now Playing................

Ketil Bjornstad - Life in Leipzig

Ketil Bjornstad - Life in Leipzig

Ketil Bjørnstad (piano) and Terje Rypdal (guitar)

Streaming on NAS...........  a recent purchase and taking out for a spin, the opening track 'The Sea V' did not grab me at the opening but settled into a beautiful piece of music with some wonderful interplay between between the piano and guitar, looking forward with the rest of the album.

Jazz Record Requests on BBC Radio 3 FM, which today is 90 minutes long, followed by 'J to Z', a further 90 minutes. With Geoffrey Smith's Jazz programme on at midnight (a bit too late for real time listening) that's four hours of jazz on the Beeb.

Great choice, Tony. Have you seen there's a new Softs album due to be released very soon? With the rather excellent John Etheridge too as on this album.

Thanks for the heads up, Clive. Looking forward to it and incredible that  their first album was released fifty years ago. Great to see part of the original lineup back together.

   Black Uhuru - Red.

Best of UK reggae, and, with the most marvellous Sandra "Puma" Jones, and production by Sly and Robbie it's a classic.

A recent purchase and taking out for a spin, something from 1992 and sounding mighty fine.......

Lee Konitz and Martial Solal - The Portland Sessions

Jazz with just a piano and a sax. And with Lee Konitz on sax there is going to be a lot of improvisation / free jazz.  Very enjoyable.

1969 - Vinyl - UK first pressing...

As I said, I blame it on Clive.????

Miles Davis - Nefertiti

J.J. Cale, Troubador, vinyl

Lovely J.J. Cale, that incredibly casual guitar playing which is deceptively sophisticated and emotional, a set of great songs, including Cocaine, a master guitarist delivering beautiful music.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Just fancied listening to something darker.

Frank Zappa, Hot Rats, early UK vinyl

Weirdly Tony played this an hour or so ago, I had it next to play as I bought it from the local record shop today, £7  for what seems to be a perfect condition early pressing (with knackered sleeve).  Great jazz fusion with grungy guitar, FZ lets rip with some amazing solos, complex jazz rhythms which are incredibly toe-tapping, and superb musicians, brilliant stuff.

This is probably my favourite Keith Jarrett Standards Trio album. Recorded in the rain in the south of France, it’s just wonderful.

Great album, I particularly like the dog barking at the end of track 1, turn it up at the end and you’ll hear it

Perfect for a summer's evening - Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage. After hearing the title track on Jazz Record Requests.
