Simple Acoustic Trio - Habanera
Marcin Wasilewski (piano), Slawomir Kurkiewicz (bass), and Michal Miskiewicz (drums)
Streaming on TIDAL....... Going with the mention from HAIM RONEN and taking 'Habanera' out for a spin.
Note/Review from the Polish Jazz website can be found here:
Even though Simple Acoustic Trio has already recorded five CDs under their own name they are best known from their long time collaboration with Tomasz Stanko that dates to 1994. Pianist Marcin Wasilewski and bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz were 18 and drummer Michal Miskiewicz only 16 when Stanko took them under his wing. They quickly developed into his band of choice for all Polish engagements, working with him on theatre and film music initially. Stanko influence over members of Simple Acoustic Trio can not be underrated: "He is our country's greatest jazz musician"' says Marcin Wasilewski. "He plays with us and helps us develop. He helped me find a voice." Now however trumpeter and pianist are singing together. As Alyn Shipton observed in The Times: "Stanko's rapport with Wasilewski is uncanny, with the two of them sliding almost seamlessly between passages of intricately composed melody to free improvisation over the modal vamps favored in the writing." Other critics rave as well: "pianist Wasilewski producing solos of extraordinary delicacy and stillness" (Manchester Music). "Pianist Wasilewski is his (Stanko's) principal foil and he pushes the music - in bandleader context - as much as Stanko. Bassist Kurkiewicz and drummer Miskiewicz head in each and every direction with authority and unity...Seeing a band that potent is a rarity in Los Angeles. (Daily Variety).
As a members of Stanko's quartet they recorded together two albums for ECM label and performed hundreds of concerts all over the world. Clearly their accomplishment is a source of pride to Stanko, who explains how he met up with them. "Eight years ago we started; they were very young, 16. I had a gig with some rhythm section and they called to say they can't do this, so what can I do? They recommend this young guy, a drummer, and he recommended to me the bass player and the pianist and we have half hour beforehand to make program and they do it without any experience! They already had individuality; they were good from the beginning. I think it is the way with musicians-if there's promise you're going to hear it immediately."
RIP Mark E. Smith
BTO. Eponymous first album on original vinyl from 1973. Hard driving rock with a good groove.
Continued yesterday with Beirach, a guy which deserves more attention...
While my interest for him mainly focuses on trios without violin...
An earlier album, not so good as the later ones, especially vocally...

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here.
My introduction to a Pink Floyd curtesy of my son. I tried Dark Side of the Moon yesterday and found it rather sedate. This is much more attention grabbing and musical. I suppose it depends on what kind of mood you are in.

Wow. That's great! Your son introduced you to Pink Floyd? My poor daughters have been on Floyd since the day they came home from the hospital. I've rocked them all to sleep while playing Pink Floyd. Sometimes Floyd requires a different or even mind altering state to fully appreciate. Lol. Enjoy!
Spurrier, Mike
Absolutely no reason for not doing the same, other than that perhaps my tastes were a bit more orthodox then. It might have caused an early divorce! I did like Cream and still enjoy Wheels of Fire (vinyl). Never to late though, and willingness to explore new ideas, music, experiences is a way of staying young at heart.

Charles Lloyd and The Marvels - I Long To See You
Sunny opener to a sunny morning from one-time forum favourite.
Complete Aladdin Recordings, Lester Young.

John Hammond - Ready For Love.
It seems that a white man can sing the blues ............ well, this one can, anyway.
Some lovely laid back blues and country choons all make for a fine album, IMHO.
(1973)
Desperado - The Eagles
Their fine second album ripped from an early original 1987 Asylum Label CD.
