On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Vinyl released 1985 - Great album. ????
Now Playing........
Van Morrison - The Healing Game
Streaming on TIDAL......... going with the mention from DAVE MARSHALL above and taking 'The Healing Game' out for a spin. Van as always is sounding mighty sweet!
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - 5 Classic Albums- (Framed, Next, The Impossible Dream, Tomorrow Belongs To Me, Live).
The essential Alex, with these five albums, for a tenner, on The River ...... as Alex would have said ............"F***ing bargain!"
Wynton Kelly - Kelly Blue
Very strong album by Wynton Kelly. All tracks are very good.

- Drums – Jimmy Cobb
- Flute – Bobby Jaspar (tracks: A1, B2)

Mike-B posted:The Unthanks - "Mount the Air" 7Digital 24/44.1kHz (FLAC conv't to WAV)
I've heard them on old occasions but have not had a serious listen (& thats shame on me) Last Friday BBC TV broadcast the Folk Proms & I finally had the chance to have a serious listen & that prompted me to buy this album (download).
In just a few words; mesmerising, amazingly beautiful music. Their own style of Northumberland, Geordie & other folk music & especially their vocal harmonisation is simply breathtaking.
This is good indeed. The song "Magpie" is used to great effect in the TV series Detectorists (first ep of series 3 I think). Detectorists is finished now and sadly missed - it was great while it lasted. After I heard the song on there I bought the record straight away.
(1988)
Flag
Something fine by Yello helping to put a smile back on my grid and get the feet tapping.
The Sound of Silence.
Why?
Because I have just plumbed in a NAP250 DR on home demo and I'm patiently waiting for it to warm up.
Although TBH the suspense is killing me.
Playing on Vinyl on Rough Trade Records 1990 - A fine debut album by Mazzy Star - She Hangs Brightly..... and has the voice of an angel
Rather more accessible than albums recorded with John C, but still some very creative playing here.
(2005)
Within Temptation - The Silent Force
Fine Goth rock fronted up by great female vocals from Sharon Den Adel accompanied by a full choir and symphony orchestra. What's not to like?
This has to be pretty close to being the ultimate mood album ..
After all these years, still love some of these songs !
Roxy Music - Avalon
Sounding as fresh as hearing it on the first ever Linn that I had heard, with a Nait and Royd Edens, at Studio 99 back in the day.
Clifford Jordan Quartet - Glass bead games
Quartet 1:
- Clifford Jordan - Tenor sax
- Stanley Cowell - Piano
- Bill Lee - Bass
- Billy Higgins - drums
Quartet 2:
- Cedar Walton - Piano
- Sam Jones - Bass
Original vinyl
Why? Well, it's not seen the light of day for some years. I wasn't sure what I was getting when I bought it as I was a diehard Fish-period fan, but I did buy it when it first came out as it was Marillion. Saw them with Steve H once, but somehow it wasn't the same. That said, F.E.A.R. is a great album...
steve
PS I'm not trying to re-ignite the Derek -v- Steve either!
CD reissue originally released 1962 - One hugh adrenaline-like thrill after another. ????
Bass – Eddie Jones
Drums – Sonny Payne
Flute – Frank Wess
Piano – Count Basie
Tenor Saxophone, Clarinet – Frank Foster
Tenor Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute – Eric Dixon
Trumpet – Thad Jones
Soul II Soul - club classics vol. one
It might have been something about my mention of 'back in the day'
Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You.
Prompted by AL9315 ^^^ Miss Franklin belts it out most wonderfully .................... Respect, indeed!
Cocteau Twins Victorialand from ‘91, my favourite CT album. I remember buying this on vinyl when it was released but had never really heard them before bar the odd track, brought it home and stuck it on my old lenco deck and thought, hmmm, nice but very laid back. After a few listens I sort of got in to it but then I happened to spot on the label that it was a 45rpm LP!
David Knopfler
Grace - 16/44.1
