Embarrasingly this:

Original RSO vinyl circa 1980 - something I grabbed from storage as my young daughter loves this kind of stuff...and so do I!

...and at the end of the day this is something we can all as a family have a dance/singaong/giggle about as we sing or dance badly/muck up the words but generally have a bit of fun at the end of a quite frankly shitty week.

It doesn't need an LP12/Naim gear but I suspect it's more fun with it!

One of my favourite jazz albums.

Break It Yourself is the name of the album.  Slightly quirky indie- folk / baroque pop from violinist and singer Andrew Bird, with a bit of whistling thrown in, but don't let that put you off.  I've got a few of his albums now and I have enjoyed them all.

Sorry to repeat myself, but this is weird - I've listened to this a few times in the car recently and it's been lacklustre, and not really moved me.

On vinyl tonight on the LP12 (admittedly after a few runs through the Project record cleaner and it's got a silent backdrop), I cannot stop playing side 2 of the 2 LP version, 3 utterly superb songs:

The End of Things

And It All Began With You

When The World Comes Apart

Looking forward immensely to the Autumn Tour.

I think the lyrics for the End of Things, particularly the Chorus, are currently very poignant and relevant for me, I'll not bore you with details but they resonate far too much:

[Verse 1]
Is that a voice calling me softly?
Nothing in here is quite how it seems
Is that a whisper's touch or my fear?
Am I awake or lost in old dreams?

Everything's so cold, the air is so still
There should be nothing here to see

Is this a warning, like in the Black Book?
There can be no one else but Me

[Verse 2]
I see a darker shade of darkness
I hear a shadow hide in the lie
I feel a suffocating tension
Within a terrible desire

Everything is so cold, the air is so still
There should be nothing here to fear
But I hear breathing, a child's laughter
Can any part of this be real?

[Chorus]
Everything I work for
Everything I long for is always just too far
Everything I hope for never comes to be
Everything I bleed for burns a scar on me
Everything I fight for leaves a bitter taste
Everything I cry for laughs into my face
Everything I scream for barely knows my name
Everything I'd die for will die just the same
In here, with me

[Verse 3]
Is this the truth of your forgiveness?
Are you the stranger stood at my door?
Are you the end of things come calling?
Are you the answer that I've wished for?

Everything's so cold, the air is so still
And there is nothing here but me
If I belong here, and this is mercy
Then there is no place I'd rather be

[Chorus]
Everything I worked for
Everything I longed for was always just too far
Everything I hoped for never came to be
Everything I bled for burned a scar on me
Everything I fought for left a bitter taste
Everything I cried for laughed into my face
Everything I screamed for barely knew my name
Everything I died for died just the same
In here, with me

Think his version of On the Beach is better than Neil Young's original. I have a 12 track version of the album.

Ceremony - New Order (from ‘Substance’)

You know that feeling when you think to yourself ‘be still, New Order are playing and everything is ok’...? That feeling.

They don’t do compilations like they used to.

That looks a good'n, Tony. I don't remember seeing that album before.

Bin find at my local record shop, Steve.  Couldn’t resist the cover. Some familiar faces there with mr Rogers up front and the ever so smiley and bearded mr Anderson at the back. How could I resist investing 3 quid on it? Quick clean on the RCM and it is as good(iiish) as new!

Haven't seen that for years. Really good album.

Talking of 70s compilations, we were listening to "Fill Your Head With Rock" when I was in the 5th form.  I found a vinyl copy at a record fair recently so I had to buy it and clean it up.  My favourite?  Leonard Cohen's "You Know Who I am".

Aimee Mann - Mental Illness

This is my go to album, if I'm struggling to choose.

Absolutely, love it.
