What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos - Really nice Vivaldi Flute Concerto's
More of the Throbbers. The classic '78 LP. UK second press vinyl. I remember buying this in 1979, the day I finished by O Levels.
Bad Company - a comp from '85 that features 10 tracks from the first 6 albums. One or two tracks are worthy of being up there with the best of Free.
Academy of St Martin in the Fields, John Alldis Choir, Sir Collin Davis - Henry Purcell: Dido & Aeneas
Now Playing.................
Charles Lloyd - The Water is Wide
Charles Lloyd (tenor saxophone), Brad Mehldau (piano), John Abercrombie (guitar), Larry Grenadier (double-bass), Billy Higgins (drums) and Derek Oles (double-bass).
Streaming on NAS............ a recent purchase and taking out for a spin. I don't think you can go wrong when you start the day with a Charles Lloyd album. Wow, the second track, 'The Water is Wide' is fantastic! A perfect album to draw you into the day.......
Ian Siegal - The Picnic Sessions.
Pinched from a review elsewhere:
"A group of bluesmen sitting in a circle, chatting and playing some pretty fine music. It feels like you've dropped in on a private party."
Ian Siegal, surely one of the UK's finest blues musicians, in company with Alvin Youngblood Hart, Luther and Cody Dickenson,
and Jimbo Mathus ............ this really is a fine "off the cuff" one take album, and is highly recommended.
Sadly, it doesn't seem to be on Tidal.
Ray LaMontagne - "Trouble" (2004) a favorite album, but this listen is prompted by an Art Dudley equipment review in which he referenced the track "Narrow Escape" and the drum "sound", drums played by producer Ethan Johns I believe. That is not how I usually listen to music but thought I would focus on that today as I do value Art's views.
perfect houseplants - new folk songs
Why? No reason, other than pleasure.
Bill Wyman & The Rhythm Kings - Struttin' Our Stuff, fun album with a powerful version of "Tobacco Road" with Paul Carrack on vocals and Peter Frampton on lead guitar.
The Blue Nile - High
I've just read an ambivalent letter in my newspaper about Freshers' Week, but a letter with more than a grain of truth in it. I went to university in Scotland, so I looked for a more positive reminder.
Playing on Cassette on Maxell UL - S C60 - Cracking album by The Wailers from 1973
Peter Frampton - "Peter Frampton" (1994) a seemingly under-rated Frampton album.
Ian Siegal and The Youngest Sons - The Skinny.
Just some more down n' dirty blues from Mr. Siegal and chums .................... this time round they include Gary Burnside,
Cody Dickinson, Robert Kimbrough and Alvin Youngblood Hart ................ raw blues, from a Brit, no less.
Freddie Hubbard - Life Flight
Great album by Freddie Hubbard. Recorded in 1987. It contains both hard bop tracks as more soul oriented tracks (like during his CTI period).
- Bass – Rufus Reid (tracks: B1 to B2)
- Drums – Carl Allen (tracks: B1 to B2)
- Drums, Tambourine – Idris Muhammad (tracks: A1 to A2)
- Electric Bass – Wayne Braithwaite* (tracks: A1 to A2)
- Electric Piano, Synthesizer – Larry Willis (tracks: A1 to A2)
- Guitar – George Benson (tracks: A1 to A2)
- Piano – Larry Willis (tracks: B1 to B2)
- Tenor Saxophone – Ralph Moore (2) (tracks: B1 to B2), Stanley Turrentine (tracks: A1 to A2)
- Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard
1974 - vinyl - UK pressing...
Made a note earlier that I should dig this wonderful album and give it another play. The magic is evident right form the opening bars of Changes. What a talent Bowie was .
Ray Bonneville - "Goin' By Feel" (2007) thanks to Ewemon
(2013)
Riverside - Shrine of New Generation Slaves
Riverside is always a fine blend of well played prog and soft metal this is one of my favourites that was in much need of a run out.
1970 - Vinyl - US pressing...
(2011)
Savoy Brown - Hellbound Train (Live Radio Sessions)
A fantastic live set recorded at a U.S. radio station whose name escapes me at the moment! Their cover of Spoonful should probably be added to my choices in the "Covers better than originals thread".
I only meant to sit down for 10 minutes....
90 minutes later and we're onto this super album.
Eva Cassidy - Nightbird
Jeff Anderson posted:
Bob Dylan - "Time Out Of Mind" (1997) my favorite Dylan disc
You mean you prefer this to Blood on the Tracks?
Yikes, I'll have to give it another listen!
Thought I'd play some more Christine Collister, this time Blue Aconite. Not as much fun as the first 'Live' album, but some really enjoyable folk/Rock music. To quote the oft repeated phrase on here, sounding mighty sweet.
A lovely bit of Haydn. On the Naim label (CD), no less!
Ese and the Vooduu People, Up in Smoke, WAV download from Bandcamp
The new single, 1st play, Ese has one hell of a voice, good song, good band, this’ll get a few more plays in the near future, great stuff.
