On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Tidal. China Moses & Raphael Lëmonnier - Crazy Blues (Mentioned by Bert Schurink) It has been a blues afternoon listening to great music mentioned in the forum.
Alba1320 posted:The Runrig weekend continues...
"Recovery" - Runrig (CD)
"Heartland" - Runrig (CD)
"The Cutter & The Clan" - Runrig (CD)
Now I'm going to have to play Discovery and Heartland to my heart's content. Time was when my academic son was considered for the post of resident keyboardist with the 'Rig'.
Tonight:
John Wick Soundtrack: gunmetal grey vinyl
Gun: Taking on the World 1st pressing
Agnes Obel: Aventine 1st pressing
Better than an NDS
Freddie White is a bit of an institution in Ireland, an excellent interpreter and wonderful guitarist. These are solo guitar renditions of many songs he has played live over the years but never recorded. It’s on Tidal, well worth checking out, particularly Ashes to Ashes and Going, going, gone and nothing compares to you

Staying on an Irish theme, this is just an exceptionally beautiful album. I’ve probably been guilty of not recognising the prophet in her home town over the years

Have to thank you Nigel for giving me a kick to dig out this terrific album for a listen again only to find the disc missing. So bought another copy last night. I have always been a big fan of Russell's songwriting. Truly underrated band who consistently put out really good albums.
CD reissue originally released 1957 - When Morgan squeezes them valves he makes the notes talk, and leaves some unmistakable Morgan "attitude." Great album. ????
- Lee Morgan - trumpet
- Curtis Fuller - trombone
- George Coleman - tenor saxophone, alto saxophone
- Ray Bryant - piano
- Paul Chambers - bass
- Art Taylor - drums
I was listening to Tom Robinson's show on BBC 6 Music earlier while pottering around in the kitchen making the thick, black tar I call coffee, and Tom played a marvellous version of "Midnight Lamp". So I thought I would give this triple album (Original UK pressing) a spin.
Haven't played this for ages. This was virtually welded to my CD player when it came out. Seems to suit this Sunday morning rather well.

Agreed, sjb. I think this is one of Mary's best albums.

That looks a very interesting prospect. Have a made a note to look that up next month.
R.E.M. - Monster.
This song has been buzzing around my head all morning, so ....................
Not played this for years and had forgotten how it is.

GoGo Penguin - Man Made Object
Finally, jazz that I can actually listen to without my ears hurting. They are playing together and not trying to compete against each other.
Rather good for a Sunday morning.
