His version of Gershwin's 'Summertime' is amazing.

One of those great Blue Note albums.
Playing this because I saw Suzanne V perform it live last Saturday, a performance I very much enjoyed..

I find I rate this album more and more with passing years and accumulated listens.

Hi Kevin,
What's the sound like? I've always felt it was recorded with blankets thrown over the microphones! Love the music, but CD & vinyl just sounds muffled with my copies. BTW, did you get your Necks tickets?

Can't get enough of these Japanese Dan SHM-CDs - they sound very good (although not as good as the old black stuff of course):

A great thing about the Dan is that all their albums were very well recorded, so when they get SHM'd or SACD'd the SQ of the recording is still wonderful but with a slightly different nuance. The Dan's SHM's have a very slightly lower dynamic range compared to original CD's and yet these Japanese master releases add a certain something to the mix. Personally I still prefer the original early CDs but it's a very close call.
Playing on Vinyl on Virgin Records - Debut solo album from 1974 from Tangerine Dreams Edgar Froese - Will be in need of something rockin' later as it's a bit to ambient but nice background non the less.

Hi Denis
I agree with you that it's the least good sounding of their records, although this Japanese SHM-CD sounds pretty OK.
I've been locked in the studio these past couple of days, so you've just reminded me that I must get those Necks tickets TONIGHT!

Hi Steve
Funny thing is, I've never actually heard Steely Dan on CD before - everything I've got (apart from a live album) is on vinyl and thus I have never bothered to listen to them on CD, so I've no idea what's good or not.
Someone came I know just came back from years spent living in Japan; he returned with a thousand discs, including many SHMs and SACDs. Circumstances meant he lacked anywhere to store them so I took a few hundred off his hands while he sorts himself out. He said play them as much as you like, so I am going through the ones I like (which to be fair, there aren't too many of. His collection seems to consist mnostly of rather sterline Japanese jazz-rock).
Round Midnight - Dexter Gordon (along with everyone else !)
Listened to this a lot of times, but not for a while - I really enjoy the film too !
Because I haven't listened to Alice Cooper for quite a while.....

Daryl Hall & John Oates
I do like a bit of Hall & Oates from time to time and this was a bit of a cracker, nicely breathed on by MoFi in 2013.
I can recommend this as a fine bit of H&O
