First.....Cara Dillon - Wanderer

...and next Foy Vance - Hope

Why? Well, these are two remarkable albums IMHO.

Two tracks in particular that have the potential to reduce the listener to tears are:

The Leaving Song, Cara Dillon off the Wanderer album and First of July, Foy Vance off his Hope album.

Not me of course, no not me you understand.

Tom Adams Vogages by Starlight, Bert intoduced me to ‘Silence’ a few months ago which came after this, have really got in to this guy since but definitely not to be confused with the banjo playing Tom Adams that Tidal mixes him up with!  Streaming on Tidal, excellent stuff.

But of course, Nigel. I do understand.

I too got in to Tom Adams after Bert's mention but searching Tidal, this album does not appear. I notice you are in Dublin and I am in the U.K. Another example of Tidal short-changing us in the U.K.

I have noticed some albums on Tidal in the US are not available here. It might be something to do with differences in regional distribution rights of course. Interesting and irritating at the same time.

How does Voyages of Starlight compare to Silence?

Interesting. Big Cara fan here. Never heard of Foy Vance. Must take a listen

It should be there Nigel but it’s under singles and ep’s not albums, it’s as good as silence, better even but only about 5 or 6 tracks, check it out

Kicking back with an old favourite, Dan Arborise's Of  Tide & Trail after a shift. There's a glass of cheap and dirty, cold dry white too.

Got it Mercky, thanks. Tee'd up in Tidal for a listen later. I always really enjoy listening to Tom Adams in a darkened room, eyes closed, fully reclined in my comfy chair, with a tipple of choice. It is a wonderfully relaxing experience. Give it a go when no one is looking!

Chris Jones Live - Free Man

This is great. The late Chris Jones and his guitar in an intimate venue. That's it! It is raw, but has that great live feel. Blimey, Chris could play that acoustic guitar and there are some lovely songs here. He could bang out those vocals too.

Sad loss.

(1997)

Something in my head totally unrelated to what I have been playing previously today has just said Sinatra. Not in the mood to pick and choose from the scores of albums here I've plumped for this rather fine, well recorded short collection from the main man.

Great shout Mercky. Just listened to this in a darkened room, which is the only way to listen to Tom Adams IMHO, but that is between you and me (and I suppose the entire forum!).

Tom is not for everyone but if you get him and he gets to you, it is a wonderful experience. He is great at gradually building to a crescendo and then nicely bringing things down again. Tom also has one incredible voice, totally unique and so involving.

It is a shame that Voyages By Starlight only appears to be available as MP3 downloads or vinyl, unless you know differently.
