Reacquainting myself with her first album before downloading the new one

After listening to the new album 'Indigo' on TIDAL this morning, my first inclination is that Soul Eyes knocked it out of the park, I did not get the same feeling on the first spin of 'Indigo.' A few great tracks but the overall album did not grab me like Soul Eyes did on its first listen. This may change a bit after getting the CD, ripping it and then giving it another listen.

Still looking forward to following her career, great vocals and musician.

Completely agree. Had a listen this morning and it was not as involving as the first album. First half is too funky and not even the cover(quite underwhelming version) of Flack’s First Time....is not enough to make me buy the album. I’ll Just listen to Erykah Badu instead. It’s the same sound but better.

I think this answers my earlier reference to Kandace in my post above and gives me an idea of the genre of music we are talking about here!

Might that not be Ewan McColl song written for Peggy Seeger?

Lloyd Cole - Don't Get Weird On Me Babe

He'd gone to America. The songs were darker. Life was changing. But I still like the record.

One of my favourite LC albums.  One of his first three solo albums (the others being "Lloyd Cole" and "Bad Vibes") and all three are excellent.

If you need to be pedantic , I think Flack "owns" it as her interpretation is absolutely memerising. And... she's still touring if you want to check her out. 81 and still going strong.

As is Peggy

(I saw her last year on a singing / book promotion tour where she explained the genesis of the song and then sang it. Makes it hard not to comment when it’s attributed to Roberta!)

we can agree it’s a great song though.

Not as instant as her debut certainly but a great recording with some dynamic range to play with.

1997 - Tidal...

Posted on: 07 September 2018 by nigelb

Although Kandace Springs new album 'Indigo' didn't immediately grab like Soul Eyes did, I do appreciate she is trying to broaden her horizons a little while still evolving in that Jazz/Soul genre.

Indigo is interesting and yes, a little less accessible than Soul Eyes. But for me that is not a bad thing. Sometimes albums need to grow on me, but I have heard enough and enjoy Kandace's vocals so much that I did not hesitate to order the CD.

Talented young lady and so cool.

Chunky - it is so helpful when people on here take the time to describe the music and the band they are posting, even if only briefly. Your summary seems very interesting and I have queued this in Tidal for a listen. I suspect so much good music passes me by on here because I am unfamiliar with it and the person posting gives no clues. And I will admit, I too am guilty of this on occasion. Will try harder.

Thanks for the words to support the album cover. Appreciated.

I dunno Nigel I have always said why I only post covers but for some inexplicable reason I tend to feel that this is sometimes aimed at me. Think I may stop posting in future.

Don’t do that, there is room for both. Sometimes I’ll say something, sometimes I won’t. sometimes I’ll mention SQ, sometimes I’ll say what HQP filter I’m using. Other’s tell me they are listening to an original vinyl.  Others tell me at what resolution they are listening to. All are welcome in my book

I do have a Tidal playlist called Ewemon’s suggestions and my listening would be poorer if it were not for your posts.

I would encourage all to continue to post whether they choose to describe the music/artist or not. The point I am making is that for those less familiar artists, it adds more value and relevance to the reader if an album cover is accompanied by a brief commentary.

Ewen, I have picked up some great new finds from your postings and I understand that it is not possible to comment on each because you kindly post so many and many of your postings are pre-release so I realise you are unable to comment.

The most important thing is everyone is encouraged to post on here and the last thing I want to do is to hinder that in any way.

Their follow up to “and Nico”. A 90’s offshoot of The Stars of Heaven (along with the Revenants). Just got it today from discogs for more than I would have paid in 1996!

first listen, this will be a grower (or else I’ve blown my wages!)

Problem for me is we are swamped with & then buried with album covers,  some folks post with descriptions/impressions/opinions of an album,  great,  on the odd occasion I post on here that's what I do because I have something I've listened to & want to share.   Other post on here are a long line of album covers,  some with 1 minute between them,  these make me question are they really good & highly recommended, or what's the story ??  have they already listened to them or are they planning to do so in the future.   I feel the enthusiasm & nothing wrong with that,  but ......  per the thread title  ......  WHY MIGHT ANYONE BE INTERESTED?

Streaming on NAS...........     arriving home and felt it would be perfect to give Damien's 'O' a spin. Definitely my favorite album from him, this album flows so well and enjoy it quite a bit!   .......sounding mighty sweet!

This is the most popular thread for me and appreciate all who take the time to post.

My only pet peeve is when an album picture is posted with no writing on the cover. For some I am sure they know the group from just the cover photo/art and then for some of us an artist name/title is always appreciated.

I know when I first started buying albums when I was just browsing in a music store I would end up buying an album if the cover grabbed my attention. In the store it was easy to flip over to the back to pick up the artist's/group's name, not so easy on a forum thread.

......and of course any additional comments, opinions, or information is always appreciated.

I do hope everyone continues to contribute to my favorite thread!

Don Henley - Inside Job

Don Henley - Inside Job

Streaming on NAS.......... dropping back 18+ years in time to take Don's Inside Job out for a spin. A fantastic voice and musician and enjoy his songwriting, a fantastic career with the Eagles and on his own. Played 'Cass County' the other day and thought I needed to revisit some of Don's earlier work.

Don Henley - The End Of The Innocence

Streaming on TIDAL..............   dropping back 29+ years in time to take Don's 'The End Of The Innocence' out for a spin. Another fantastic album, love his voice, music, & lyrics and he has some wonderful musicians/performers joining him along with some back up singers. Great flow to this album.......   It is nice that its Friday night and nice that the wife has left for a couple of hours and cranking the volume.....
