What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.

Last year's thread can be found here:

This one doesn’t need to grow on me. It is full of nice songs which sound good. While the one critic is that she uses a bit much electronic beats in the background, while I think her quality of voice even better shines with acoustic instrumentation. Just enjoying it for the first time on my main system in high res. So far only listened mobile and muso via Tidal. In highres it sounds even a bit more smooth / round...

Problem for me

I am not concerned with your problems - no, really, I am not.

these make me question are they really good & highly recommended, or what's the story ??  have they already listened to them or are they planning to do so in the future

None of that matters, you are free to do your own research.

per the thread title  ......  WHY MIGHT ANYONE BE INTERESTED?

The original thread title for a number of years was "What Are You Listening To ?"   A non-contributing moderator decided that wasn't satisfactory.  The original thread was never intended (in my opinion) as a "recommendation", it was just what it said.  Most contributors in my experience are willing to answer questions, if asked.  Often it is just useful as a reminder to revisit something.

In a way I agree. I think sometimes the fact that a certain album is popping up under a certain forum member is for me already a signal to give it a try. So long texts are not needed, while at the same time very much appreciated when people take the effort.

For me it doesn’t mean that I recommend an album when listening. I just hope with the publishing that others get inspired. Sometimes I have time and energy to write more about it, and I do then. But I am primarily listening music and not writing forum posts....

And sure if I like a new album, I will definitely mention that.

Wow, I feel a little guilty that it was my post that has sparked this argument (debate?). it is also very sad for me that some of the most prolific and interesting posters on here have taken exception to my suggestion that a few words to accompany an album cover, particularly relating to lesser known/new artists, would be helpful. The very last thing I want is for anyone to question if they are going to continue posting on here.

The most important thing is that people don't feel pressure to comment underneath an album cover picture, and that you all continue to post on here, with or without commentary. This is a rich source of great music and has contributed to a revolution in my musical tastes and a broadening of my music collection.

Can we please drop this now and please all keep posting on here. After all, what is the point of owning some of the best hifi equipment in the world when you have nothing interesting or engaging to play on it!

Have to agree Nigel.....if you can and want to add a few words it can help, it’s the best thread for me.

Hi Nigel,  AFAIC there is nothing to argue about.  I, like you, would like to see a few words,  if others want to disagree or argue,  no problems,  but I won't be joining.

I have seen the debate on this and echo the comments of others - people should feel free to post what they are listening to, either with comments or not.  I quite like it when there are some comments, but I enjoy the contributions from all forum members, even if it is music that I am not partial to.  Often albums or artists are so well known that comments are not needed.  I tend to add comments mainly on new artists I have come across, so as to give members an idea of the type of music involved, just in case it might be of interest to them.  I tend to only post if I think the album is good and might be of interest to others.  I have found that you quite quickly discover which forum members have similar musical taste to yourself.  This thread is my favourite on the forum and the one I contribute to the most.  I am constantly amazed and intrigued at the wide range of music that members listen to.

For the record, I am in total agreement with this! ALL posts on here should be welcomed.

The Drop.  Brain One

WHY might anyone be interested ?    What difference does it make whether any one else is interested ?

What can I tell you about this album that you don't already know ?

If you don't know this album then listen to this and you can decide for yourself if it's interesting.

Now come on Christopher, you can do better than that! I would like few paragraphs from you about the Gorillaz and several more about Demon Days. How am I supposed to decide if I want a listen?

And I can buy the Naim underpants, where…………?

I confess to a brief moment of nihilism based on some of the stuff I've seen today but it seemed too solipsistic to commit to paper here. An album with a very literal album title was chosen

Equanimity now well on the way to be restored with Little Feat's Waiting For Columbus. Ain't nothing like some live Feat to raise a smile.

Yeah, to you and Tony, the Jockeys are perhaps a bit troubling ......but with a tummy this flat at my age

Robert Plant | Alison Krauss - Raising Sand

Streaming on TIDAL..........   I  had a listen to Robert & Alison yesterday and thought starting off the day with them both of them would start off the day just right!   .......a fantastic album and worth the time to give a listen.......  and just ordered a used CD off the river.

A bit of a change from my recent listening with some indie rock from Low with their album Ones and Sixes.  Only my second spin of this disc which is growing on me - it has a minimalistic sound to it.

Reminded by this of The Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican, a very good parody band I saw at Cropredy this year. This is their Cockwombling Song, you’ll soon see why it came to mind.

Well Mr West is definitely a cockwomble.

However, the album I am listening to is really rather good IMO of course. His attention to detail and production is first class and he should't be knocked for that.
