It seems we have a Zeppelin fan here...

Well done sir!

The father has quite a vinyl based serious set-up btw. Not sure what it is.

One of my lesser-played Supertramp albums but I really don't know why because it's up there with Crime of the Century, Crisis, What Crisis? Even in the Quietest Moments.  Must something subliminal on my part

Led Zeppelin - II - UK vinyl.

They get me every time, I’m sucked into the music, then often have to come up and just admire how say Bonzo plays a ridiculous line across the kit from right to left, JP and JPJ quickly interplay before Percy picks it up and uses his voice as a third instrument. Blues influence clear, but folk, jazz, psychedelia, I’d say metal if they weren’t 10 years early, a live feel for a studio album, the epitome of hard rock.

Exited when I noticed Bonzo had autocorrected to Bono.

That would be one of my desert island discs for sure. A true classic.

On earbuds via the MacBook 'cos Mrs Plane is watching (eek!) the dreaded X Factor

Why? Well, I wanted some cool sophisticated sounds and JH is my favourite sax player.

Murray Perahia - Concertgebouw, Haitink, Beethoven PIano Concerto No. 5, Original U.K. vinyl.

Fancied a change of style, but needed to keep the musical drive. Beethoven’s 5th piano concerto, the Emperor, is a martial powerhouse of classical music. Perahia and Haitink don’t push the extremes here, it’s less bravura than other readings, but I love it for bringing out the power and drive of the music while still being quite restrained in style.

I ‘discovered’ this album properly about 6 months ago, it having languished virtually unplayed in my collection for maybe 15 years. I think it has since been played a couple of dozen times. Totally wonderful. Ellington at his restrained, eccentric, humorous, less-is-more best.

Wonder if I should seek out a copy on Vinyl. Hmmm..

Zukerman, Barenboim, Brahms Viola Sonatas, UK vinyl

Brahms wrote these 2 pieces for clarinet and piano originally, but rescored them in a minor way for viola,  and named both clarinet and viola under the same Opus number. They’re beautiful Romantic pieces with soulful depth and sadness, but also great beauty, Pinchas Zukerman and Daniel Barenboim were close friends, they play the music with understanding of its heart and depth, with beauty, and with perfect knowledge of each other’s style. A wonderful album.

An interesting album, while not a typical guitar jazz album...

The new one, I personally find the songs with the trio more interesting than the ones with the trumpet player...

While i am not saying they are bad...

Now with the last one of the evening, nice tuneful jazz

The Kinks - Live at Kelvin Hall - from the 2016 Kinks in mono vinyl box set.

My 1st listen ever to this live recording, not sure why I’ve not heard it before. Unpolished (in a good way) live recording of a great pop/rock band, incredibly powerful raw guitar from Dave Davies, Ray wrote some of the greatest pop songs ever and sings them brilliantly, the crowd are wild and loud, the band are hot if occasionally sloppy, like the best rock gigs of your memory.

Alison Krauss - Now That I've Found You: A Collection

Streaming on NAS........ dropping back 23 years to this release from Alison and she is sounding sweet with some of her bluegrass hits from the previous 10 years!

Meshell Ndegeocello Songs for Rainy nights, blackouts and melancholia EP, superb recording and production on this 2003 recording, Robert Glasper input too I think.  PRaT in bucket loads, recommended.

Joni Mitchell - For the Roses, early ‘80s USA vinyl.

One of Joni’s great albums in her amazing run of releases from the start of her career up until the ‘80s. Moving from folk to jazz-influenced sophisticated music in this album, the lyrics here are as poetic and brilliant as ever. Complex tunes, played by a great band of session players (and Stills and Nash).  For me she’s up there with Dylan and Cohen as the finest poets of the great singer-songwriter period, the incisive way she captures a scene or a person  in a pair of lines is stunning, she sets that to complex lovely tunes, sings brilliantly and has a great band.

Now Playing........

Hiss Golden Messenger - Lateness of Dancers

Hiss Golden Messenger - Lateness of Dancers

Streaming on TIDAL..........   A mention from Chunky and NIGELB had me place this in the TIDAL queue and now taking it out for a spin.  Through two tracks and enjoying the vocals of M. C. Taylor who is also the songwriter who is accompanied by some fine musicans. Enjoying this quite a bit and will be planning on taking this out for another spin in the near future.!

Alternatively you could seek out 'Side by Side' for more of the same.

Thanks Clive. I bought the CD of that a few months ago on the strength of this one. I like it too, but not as much as this album.
