Not quite the correct cover but just enjoyed an RCA Gold Seal remaster from the mid 80s.

Going through a bag I've dragged out of storage containing vinyl and books!

This was loose without the cover, dusty and scratched :-( but sounds fantastic even before a trip on the record cleaner.

I just wanted to thank and support all those who have posted particularly outstanding music that they are listening to.  I am building my music collection from scratch, and I have added 4 items to either download or TIDAL in the next few days.  I appreciate almost every type of music that is done well.

I was trying to think of a one-word description of this album and eventually plumped for sumptuous.

Not sure I'm quite in the mood for this, and will swap to something more cheerful soon - cost £3 new on vinyl many years ago possibly from WH Smith!

A J Ghent Band - Live At West Terminal

Great, old school, upbeat rock with a funky vibe, shall we call the genre 'funrock' - maybe not.

This Ghent (sorry) is a fine guitarist and singer, and so are his backing group, and there are some family members in there too. And you can just tell they love what they are doing!

Just love these guys.

Perfect descriptive summary, Mike.

Inspired by the recent discussion on the ND555 thread.

(1999)

The Very Best of Dusty Springfield

Not the best SQ or fidelity in the world but a nice (75 minute) blend of mainly her early hits and late singles with the Pet Shop Boys, you've got to listen to Dusty every now and then...

The Barr Brothers - The Barr Brothers

I think it might have been Stevee who originally posted this, but I am so old, I honestly can't remember. Anyway, whoever it was, I thank you. I love the Barr Brothers and have bought all three of their albums, but, for me, this is their finest, but all are wonderful.

It is my mission today, as I have criticised others for minimal, or no commentary, to describe the music I am posting. For simplicity, let's call this a wonderful melange of Country and Folk. As it is inadvisable to start a new genre word with 'Count'(ry), I am going for 'Folktry'.

Alas, as I am still listening to this wonderful album, I realise that 'Folktry' is a woefullly inadequate description. Oh well, I did try.

Highly recommended.

Spiritualized - And Nothing Hurt

Rather good it is too.

It might well have been me Nigel as I've posted them up and championed them here, I love them to bits and have all their albums but it was that man ewemon who put me onto them 7 years or so ago...

Great taste in music, that Ewemon chap!

Vinyl reissue originally released 1969 - A classic album. ????

Posted on: 09 September 2018 by Bert Schurink

A pleasant album, with all kind of soft classical tunes. The Japanese tune also nicely shows off the capabilities of the ND555

Now switched to Vilde, a great player, her new one...

Melody Gardot - Currency Of Man

Prompted by....err.....me on another thread. I do realise that sounds a bit weird, but true it is.

One word......belter. And it is the opposite of syrupy jazz, an accusation I have read today.

Agreed, Nigel.  I love all of Ms Gardot's albums but I rank this as her best.

A lovely album even though the mixture of Plant & Krauss seems unlikely. And I've a soft-spot for this album as it was through it that I discovered the wonderful Ms Krauss.

Miles Davis - Circle in the Round - side 1 of 4

Bought this a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time I've had a chance to listen to it. A collection of unreleased (by the late 70's) recordings of Miles and his various bands between 1955 -  1970.  This was released in the middle of Miles 'retirement' from music that lasted five years and in light of no new material this was released.

I've only listened to side one and so far this is quality, quality material not a mismatch of unreleased substandard tracks thrown together by Columbia to make a few quid.

Side 1 starts with Two Bass Hit from 1955 featuring John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones which is a nice fast little tune in whicn Coltrane especially shines.

Next is Miles 1955 rendition of Cole Porter's - Love For Sale is as the sleeve notes describe a mini masterpiece. A masterclass in piano by Bill Evans and also backed by Jimmy Cobb, Paul Chambers and Canonball Alderley and of course John Coltrane sextet responsible for many, many jazz masterpieces.  A version of this track was released on Alderleys Something Else but this version is better.

Closing this side is a Miles comp Blues No 2 with Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones which is another fantastic cut with some extra special drumming from Philly Joe.

A really excellent release so far lets hope sides 2, 3 and 4 are as good from 1967, 68 and 1970 I expect they'll be very different from side 1.

McCoy Tyner - Illuminations

Good post bop jazz by McCoy Tyner and his quintet. Recorded in 2004.
