Alban Berg Quartet, Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 16 Op. 135, Original U.K. vinyl box Set.
Op 135 is my favourite piece of instrumental music, (pretension warning). For me late Beethoven ranks with late Rembrandt and Shakespeare, the greatest artists exposing human soul in their art, the late Beethoven Quartets and Piano Sonatas for me show humanity as much as any music could. And for my taste, Number 16shows the human conflict and the joy of resolution in a beautiful form that raises my soul, and in this studio recording the Bergs nail it, a desert island disc for me.
Eoin, this is at least the second time that you have played and championed this album with fine words which has encouraged me to seek out a copy. Thanks.
Paul McCartney & Wings. Band On The Run (1973). 25th Anniversary Edition on CD from 1999. I highly doubt there is another notable classic rock album recorded in Lagos, Nigeria. And what a classic this is!
Some great pop tunes on this collection, which take me back to long hot school holidays with the radio playing in the background. I've just been sampling a few tracks and now found myself playing the whole album. Such great songwriters.

As you were posting this, I was writing about how 10cc reminded me of long hot summers and school holidays. Well, this album does exactly the same. I never did work out how to play Bluebird. What a great album indeed.

Listening to this & shortly after treated to 'In A Silent Way' !
Baroque music seems to be popular today, so I recommend this recent recording of Vivaldi double concertos. The soloists are uniformly excellent and the playing of La Serenissima under the direction of Adrian Chandler is exceptionally lively and vivid. Plenty of toe-tapping from me; who says that PRaT is not relevant to classical music?

Popular Problems
The wonderful late Leonard Cohen who made some very fine albums very late on in his career, his voice deeper and richer in his later years like a fine old Armagnac.

Playing this silky smooth album on vinyl from 1984 - was it really that long ago?! Great recording and pressing.
Haven't listened to Sade for goodness-knows how many years, and I don't have any of her CDs. Think I'll get this and re-acquaint myself with her. Thanks Clive.
You won't regret it!

This is such a perfect antidote to a tough day in work. Aural Valium in a positive sense.
