David Bowie - Heroes, 1980s vinyl.
From the wild energy of the vocal numbers on the first side, through the ambient art-rock (manky)instrumentals of the second side, an album that gives a lot. The instrumentals are totally gripping, and the songs have a completely compelling power, when I listen to the title track I’m often convinced it’s his finest.
Art rock manky instrumentals- a tad harsh ????

Reminded by a post from Dan Steel to play this excellent album from Warren Zevon.
It's from this excellent five CD box set of his first five albums. If you are not fully aware of Warren's work this is an excellent way of getting acquainted with this sadly missed exceptional songwriter.
It is also an an excellent sounding set of CD's
The first Dire Straits album.
Difficult to know what to say as to why. This record has been with me all my adult life. It's seen heartbreak and elation. It's great at this time of day with the good coffee, today from Sumatra.
I've recently found myself reflecting that it's something of a blokes' album. I can't think of a single woman I know who likes it. I think that's because of Knopfler's way of seeing the world, his background as a reporter and the pictures he paints that I've alluded to before.
I once heard Knopfler talking on the radio about his time in newspapers, in Yorkshire, I'm guessing mid 70s. His editor called across the newsroom to him:
'Er, Knopfler, can I have a word? I want you to go down to the court for the case that's sitting at two o'clock. I want you to get the defendant's name. I want you to get the defendant's address. And I want you to get yer bloody hair cut'.
Blokeish.

Ry Cooder - Chicken Skin Music.
I’m off to bed after the current album, I’ll pull that out for tomorrow, it’s been many years.
I know what you mean Eoin, for me this gets lost between Paradise and Lunch and Bop Till You Drop

LP - Very lucky to have discovered Miles all these years ago - keep coming back to him
Listening to this & shortly after treated to 'In A Silent Way' !
I guess you already have heard 'Circle in the Round' from the same period but if not then you are in for a treat I heard it a couple of nights ago and it blew me away . On the LP of the same name or on the 'Complete Quintet Recordings' I think it's called
I have heard it - thanks - along with nearly all of Miles' albums
Don't forget "A Tribute To Jack Johnson" & "Bitches Brew" from the same period !?

Except... I got into this album thanks to repeated play blasting out of my older sister's bedroom. Then again she had impeccable taste; her favourite album bar none was Bowie's Hunky Dory, closely followed by Neil Young's Harvest.

Good one Richard!
Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos - Really lovely Bach Flute Concertos
Madonna - True Blue
A recent Oxfam find on very decent vinyl, sounds great.
Beautifully played and a lovely recording. Perfect.

I suspect I was trying to write mainly, because there is a vocal track on side 2, oops.
Trio Dali - Mendelssohn piano trios
Some more Mendelssohn for me this morning.

I think I may need to order this, tempting musically, but the cover is a bit disappointingly normal for the Trio Dali.
An album that's been in my collection for a while but has never been played much up until now. I started listening to this earlier and it's actually rather lovely. Bonnie has a beautiful voice and this is a gorgeous recording. I noticed the HR symbol lit on my 1Z and it's a 24/96 version of a Ken Christianson True Stereo recording from the Naim label.
Bonnie Koloc - Visual Voice
Playing on Cassette on TDK D C90 - lovely and moving piece of classical
Playing on Compact Disc on Columbia Records - If you haven't got any Byrds albums this is a great start - Features all their best singles album and album tracks
Now Playing...................
Brian Blade Fellowship - Perceptual
Brian Blade (drums, guitar & vocals, Melvin Butler (tenor & soprano saxophone), Jon Cowherd (piano & keyboards), Dave Easley (pedal steel guitar), Kurt Rosenwinkel (electric & acoustic guitars), Christopher Thomas (bass), Myron Walden (alto saxophone & bass clarinet), Daniel Lanois (guitars on tracks 8 & 9 only) and Joni Mitchell (vocal on track 8 only).
Streaming on NAS............ a recent purchase that I have played a couple of times over the past couple of weeks and enjoy the album quite a bit, so here we go for another spin!
Remastered vinyl stereo version - Fab stuff. ????

Brad Mehldau trio - Seymour reads the constitution!
I mentioned this album on the ND555 Impressions thread as an alternative to Melody Gardot's live album which was being discussed there owing to the picture on the sleeve, which depicted a rear view of said lady playing a Gibson ES335 before an empty auditorium, which was also presented on the screen of the ND555. I'm sure this album, released on 31 December 1975, would be far more acceptable - again an ES335 (post 1962 owing to the pointed 'ears'), but this time it's on fire. This might look good on the screen of an ND555 too.
BTW I recall that this album is being rereleased imminently.
Anna Calvi "Hunter" Ltd edition signed print, 180g Red coloured vinyl
What a voice! I'll be seeing her live when she plays The Roundhouse, London next year
Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos - Nice Mendlessohn piece

Vinyl released 2015 - Only discovered this guy recently and I’m glad I did. This is a fine jazz album with a mix of post-bop, fusion, and contemporary R&B-infused jazz. Great stuff. ????https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kTIKb-eQm10
Playin' this again as its so good. ????
24/96 PCM stereo, from that new superdeluxe box. Soundwise, a define step up from that godawful 2007 version, but, as I had feared, it's the 'movie' version with butchered versions of NQ, WLL and CD. Grrr...
Very nice package though.
