On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
A Psyche Tribute To Doors by a variety of bands. I've never heard this before and so just have to give it a go... two traxs in and its great fun.

James Taylor - Before This World
Streaming on TIDAL....... The wife requested this album next and so here it spins..... James in his late 60's sounds great, his voice and style maintained over time, very, very nice. Through three tracks, a wonderful album.......
I’d forgotten I had this - oops! Piano and cello, and really very good.

Superb album, oozing fine musicianship, and seamlessly improving the flavour around genre borders : )
Just to confirm this 2010 double album has a fabulous sonic quality, perfectly mastered for vinyl, it's shame they [whomever they are] have messed up so badly with their latest album The Thread That Keeps Us : /

Beethoven: Evgeny Kissin (piano)
Consisting of six live recordings over the period of 2006 through 2016 one could think that Kissin / DGG were taking the easy road to release his first DGG release (rather than a fresh studio recording). This may be true had it been anyone else. The playing and the recording quality is actually quite good despite the variation to be had from six different venues over a decade.
The playing is so outstanding that even I cannot help but be affected by it despite my usual penchant for slower and less pointed interpretations. Of all the racehorses out there, this may be the one that I actually praise as it is simply fearless, perfect, and intelligent. Many try to play with this much energy but fail because they simply cannot keep it all together and turn it into something musical.
All I can say is that the level of detail that this guy puts into each work is quite phenomenal. I wouldn't know this if the recording quality wasn't above par. I guess it turns out that if a recording (the cheapest bit of software at the mercy of some very expensive hi-fi gear) sounds very good I am exceedingly happy (musically). I listen to things on a daily basis where I am frustrated out of my mind because more than the majority of $20 recordings sound crappy despite having expensive equipment. How do you even recognize a great interpretation if the sound quality is pure crap? One day, I'd like to sort my music library into two groups only: those that sound phenomenal and those that sound awful but what if it is Naim equipment that is just plain moody and difficult by some days sounding crappy and the odd day sounding beyond brilliant? Or let's just blame the quality of the electricity that the utility supplies to my house?
Hey Doug,
nice writeup!
would you like to swop your double DG set of Ludwig for my 5CD Sony/RCA of Frédéric C ?
