Led Zeppelin III. Vinyl, first UK pressing on the pink & plumb Atlantic label. Fresh from a clean and sounding surprisingly good given it’s age and how it sounded before a deep groove wash - and although not quite free of surface noise, not far off. Superb result.

LZIII is an excellent album which I also gave a spin this morning, albeit on CD.

Agreed! My very fav Zep album, although really like In Through The Outdoor too. Also have LZIII on CD and a later vinyl (green & orange) German Alsdorf pressing - not obsessive at all!

(1987)

Yello - One Second

Parking The Doors for now until I get the chance for a more 'critical listen' later and onto another fine, fun, musical album from these boys while I keep the puppy amused before his supper.

Shirley Bassey - The Collection

Never played any Shirley through my system until now, OMG what a Diva, what a voice.

Volume has been cranked to 11.

Larry Schneider quartet - Just Cole Porter

  • Larry Schneider - Sax
  • Andy LaVerne Piano
  • Mike Richmond - Bass
  • Keith Copeland - Drums

Music to pull you out of the comfort zone, but still attractive...

Future Sound of London - Lifeforms, I once read a review of this and it was described as the ‘Dark side of the Moon of the nineties’ . Not sure I’d go that far but it was fairly innovative for its day and one of my all time favourite electronic/ambient albums. WAV cd rip.

B Ferry - Avonmore

I played it a lot when it came out, hardly at all since. It's no Boys and Girls. It seems a bit chuggy, and a bit 'midnight train going down the track'. We are inexplicably late with the cocktail hour this evening but it's more than good enough.

The King Biscuit Radio Hour show from 1973. Forgot how smokin the version is of Rocky on this.

I need to dig out my copy of the film from the broadcast as I haven't watched it in so long.

For me, the best thing about the forum is not the discussions about whether the absence of a Powerline makes the system "unlistenable", but when members alert me to excellent new music offerings such as this one. Just arrived yesterday, and airing it out as hurricane Florence begins its entry into my area:

Thanks to whoever posted this and seeded me investigating it. Excellent SQ on this recording too...

If you like that you need to get his Neo Blues Project album.

Forgot about the above album which if memory serves me was the first album he played on.

Have a listen you might like it.

Just listening to Col. Bruce Hampton's Pharoah's Kitchen, a spin off Ewemon recommendation with Mr A.J. Ghent being the common thread. And yes Mr Ghent's guitar is unmistakable within the mix in the Colonel's album and yes it is more bluesy but very enjoyable.

I have just read that, 2 years after making this album, the Colonel appeared at the Atlanta Fox theatre as part of a tribute for his 70th birthday and collapsed on stage and died later that evening. Very sad.

The Beatles - Abbey Road. Vinyl, very early UK pressing. Another catch up from the old record box and it’s sounding great. Forgot just how good this album is as I often default to Revolver or Sgt . Peppers.

(2002)

Stevie Wonder - The Definitive Collection

Sometimes it's good to just flick through the hits with these collections, this is one of those times and the SQ isn't too ba. Playing CD 1 of 2.

How interesting - one of my favourite Jackson Browne albums! Is this a commercially available release or from a private collection?

AJ Ghent - Neo Blus Project

Posted by Ewemon many moons ago, I have finally tracked this one down on CD and having a listen to it via Tidal while I wait for the CD to arrive.

It is an absolute belter, of course IMHO! Shame it only has 6 tracks and finishes way to soon.

I've seen this album given high praise on here by a few members so thought I get a CD.  More traditional style jazz than I usually go for. The sound quality is superb. A nice one to kick-back to.

Nice. Is this pressing the one with  Jimmy Page and Peter Grant credits "do what thou wilt" and "so mote it be" in the vinyl runoff? Later red/maroon pressings had the credit removed.

Boz Scaggs - Fade Into Light

One of Boz's finest!

I don't play Madonna that much but have always liked this album.  Some serious dynamics which will test the bottom-end ability of most systems.

Chet Baker trio - Chet's choice

I really enjoy Chet Baker in a trumpet-guitar-bass trio setting. This album is another example of such a setting. It from his later period (1985) and Chet is in excellent form. He is joined by Philip Catherine on guitar and Jean_louis Rassinfosse on bass.

The groups performance of ‘Love for sale’ is magnificent.

Yes, that's the one - "do what thou wilt" & "so mote it be" on the vinyl run out. Afterwards, played snippets off my later Alsdorf pressing and this sounds better, but not much in it.

Cracking album. One of my fav MADGE discs. If you haven’t already got it, also check out Confessions on a Dance Floor - her tribute to Disco and it flows like a club DJ set. I thinks its superb and oft overlooked after the ‘dip’ of the American Life album. Its a really good sounding CD too and can be had for pennies secondhand.

Bu**er, I saw this for £1 pre loved today and for some reason I didn't pick it up. Stupid of me.
