What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Enjoying a listen to this CD. Elbow - The Take Off And Landing Of Everything. Released in 2014. Influences include Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead and maybe a smidge of classical.
Duran Duran: Paper Gods, now with 3D subterranean bass, first pressing, naturally. I should really get into olive oil production
1969 - Vinyl - UK first pressing....

One of my favourite Dire Straits albums but it took me quite a few years before I really appreciated its merits.
I loved it form the off, but overshadowed by Telegraph Road and the universality of Brothers in Arms with its Yamaha DX1 digital hype.

I've had the Qobuz hi-res version since release - crumbs a vinyl version, I'd better check Amazon I thought - so I did and I see I'd purchased the vinyl in 2015!!!!! Where on earth is it!

UK first press vinyl. I probably bought this back in 1988 because I liked him and it sounded great back then. It hasn't aged well - I mean, has any sound dated more badly than 1980s slap-bass synth?
"Budapest By Blimp" is still a great song though.
I disagree. And I wager so would Terry jackson the bassist with the Lost Toy People! Listened to this a couple of weeks ago and found it as fresh as its debut. We need tangential main stream. When did TD get lost? Submarinal mishap perchance?
Yes, Loki. I began my love affair with Dire Straits with those more contemporary albums and still like them. In has only been in recent years that I've come to appreciate their first album and Communique. Yet for some reason Making Movies still doesn't do it for me.
The War On Drugs - Lost in the Dream
And yes I am.
Last album of the evening for me. Must try and get to see Eddi Reader live one day.
Cuarteto Casals - Beethoven Inventions, WAV CD rip.
Recommended by Bert a few days ago, 1st listen, I went for the disc with the two most joyous of the late quartets , Opp 127 &135. Superb performances bringing out the joy of the music, lively fluid tempi, not digging perhaps into the emotional depths, but beautiful enjoyable perfect readings.
Just finished the first disc of The Girl from Chickasaw County. All I can say is... wow! Never heard the album sounding better than this (on CD at least), and the bonus material is absolutely top-notch. The only pity is that I'm working tomorrow and I won't be able to hear disc two until Sunday evening.
This sets the bar really high for this kind of archival release, and congrats I think to Andrew Batt and everyone else involved.

Billy Joel - Storm Front, this album has a more rockier style than other releases and I have always enjoyed "We Didn't Start The Fire".
I do like the image on this cover. I've had a day of mostly piano jazz. Finally I venture into Keith Jarrett. This could be a really enjoyable album if it weren't for his wretched squeaking. The music and the playing are beautiful as you might expect, but please don't sing along, Mr Jarrett.
(2000)
Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain
Their first and still one of their finest albums to date. Just back in from a wonderful meal at Scotland's finest seafood restaurant and some Frapp was required to accompany the last of my 18 year old McCallan.
Now playing........
Prince - Prince & A Microphone 1983
Streaming on NAS......... A pre-order that arrived in the afternoon mail, ripped to NAS and now taking out for a spin! Enjoyed the opening track "17 Days" as well as the opening of "Purple Rain"...........
Vilde Frang, Britten & Korngold Violin Concertos, WAV CD rip.
A player I’d somehow manage to miss, bought this and another disc after seeing Bert recommend her, 1st spin. She’s superb, great tone, she provides a bravura performance of the Korngold and brings out the powerful passion of the Britten, thanks Bert.
A few members have been listening to Paul Simon's latest album, which I must investigate soon. This has inspired me to listen to Paul's album, Surprise from a few years ago. The surprise to me was that Brian Eno was involved with this album. I wouldn't have thought of them as natural bedfellows, but it works quite well.
Can’t believe it’s been over 20 years since this came out. I’ve been critical of the longevity of recital discs in the past, but not this one - stunning voice and good characterisation make one forgive the sometimes iffy pronunciation.
Kasarova became RCA’s house mezzo for a time and went on to record a good number of complete operas, studio and semi-live.
Cheers

This afternoon and tonights main listening.
Oooh, lots of interesting looking stuff to check out Ewe.
Cheers.
Jeff Lynne - Long Wave, an album of covers with all instruments played by the man himself.
