On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Playing on Cassette on Maxell UL S C60 - Really like this Floyd album from 1972 - Still never seen the Movie though - Love the opening 2 tracks - Obscured by Clouds and When your In
Tim Kliphuis trio and orchestra - Concertos.
Tim Kliphuis (violin) - Nigel Clark (guitar) - Roy Percy (bass)
Interesting arrangements of some of the pieces of Bach Brandenburg concertos. It's a mixture of classical music, jazz and gypsy.
2012 on the Hippie Dance label. Which sums this release up.
Badfinger - The Best Of .
Now Playing..........
Donald Byrd Band & Voices - A New Perspective
Donald Byrd (trumpet), Hank Mobley (tenor saxophone), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Herbie Hancock (piano), Donald Best (vibes), Lex Humphries (drums), Burch Warren (bass) a eight-voice gospel choir directed by Coleridge Perkinson.
Streaming on NAS...... a concept album from 1963 that has a gospel choir adding their harmonizing in the mix with jazz musicians. It works very well and a nice album to kick off this Friday morning!
Playing on Cassette on TDK D C60 - Good hearing this Stones album as they where getting more psychedelic
Now playing........
Stefano Bollani Quintet - Joy in Spite of Everything
Stefano Bollani (piano), Jesper Bodilsen (double bass), Morten Lund (drums), Mark Turner (tenor saxophone) and Bill Frisell (guitar).
Streaming on NAS......... One of my favorites that brings a lot of joy each and every time I play it!
Now playing........
Tord Gustavsen Trio - Changing Places
Tord Gustavsen (piano), Harald Johnsen (double-bass) and Jarle Vespestad (drums).
Streaming on NAS........ arrived in the mail yesterday and taking out for a spin and as always Tord is sounding fantastic!
Eric Clapton - Sessions For Robert J.
Some late afternoon blues with the music of Robert Johnson.
Largely "one take, no overdubs" this is much better than Eric's earlier RJ tribute ............ and the accompanying DVD is not half bad too!
Playing on Compact Disc - Fabulous album by Captain Beefheart from 1972 - Love - Your Eyes are a Blue Million miles and Big eyed Beans From Venus
Urszula Dudziak and the superband. Live at the jazz cafe. 2009.
jazzy do do doody do do.
(Released today)
All Them Witches - ATW
I have been playing a couple of their pre-release/pre-order tracks for a couple of months and been very much looking forward to the full album. Here it is duly downloaded at about seven o'clock this morning and it's a blast... Fine punchy desert blues rock.
Fantastic Negrito - Please Don't Be Dead.
Impossible to categorise, with hints of Jimi, Jack White and even Prince, this is one great follow up to his last stunning album, IMHO.
Now playing.........
Tomasz Stanko - Leosia
Tomasz Stanko (trumpet), Bobo Stenson (piano), Anders Jormin (double bass) and Tony Oxley (drums).
Streaming on NAS........... A pleasant Friday and settling in with the gentle groove offered by this fabulous quartet. Sounding simply fantastic this morning!
Robbert Scherpenisse - searching for Ai
Nice modern jazz. Robbert Scherpenisse (trumpet) heads a large ensemble. Sometimes they sound like a big band on other tracks they scale down to a quintet setting.
Ai refers to the Japanese word form Harmony.
Post work, pre weeekend release from the stresses & strains. This fits the bill.
G
Blur - Leisure...
A new purchase, on CD. Sounds very nice - seems Rhino/Atlantic have used original mono mixes:
Enjoying some Joni M before cooking dinner.
Mal Waldron Quintet - Where are you?
- Alto Saxophone – Sonny Fortune
- Bass – Reggie Workman
- Drums – Eddie Moore
- Piano – Mal Waldron
- Tenor Saxophone – Ricky Ford
Jamiroquai - The Return of the Space Cowboy
This is sounding rather good tonight.
