(1984)

No, it's not Melody Gardot posing for a new album, it's old Roger Waters weighing up the pros and cons of hitchhiking.

Elles Spring - Reveal, Ltd Ed Original vinyl (412/1000).

Bought from  Vertere at the weekend show, Elles  was the singer they had playing live.  Her live sets were the high point of the show for me, beautiful heartfelt songs, she has a voice to die for, interprets her lyrics superbly, and Mark her guitarist plays exactly the notes needed to enhance the emotion or add pace. This is top class music making, could easily end up my album of the year.

I've had Marlene on the Wall as an ear worm today so thought I'd better play it to try to banish it. Playing this through the NDS as I'm too lazy to get the vinyl of the first album out.

EDIT: actually this retrospective album is a jolly good collection of SV songs.

(1981)

Bella Donna

I had a rare urge to get into some old Nicks...

Graham Parker  - Cloud symbols, original vinyl.

The old pub-rock legend’s new one, was on my doorstep yesterday when I got back from a few days away, 1st listen. Very enjoyable, his snarl isn’t as evident as in his youth, intelligent songs, reflective numbers, upbeat ones, a couple of trademark cynical ones, fantastically played by his new band, the brass adds a jauntiness to much of it. Short album at about 30 minutes, worth it for the music.

Fay Claassen - Specially arranged for Fay.

Fay Claassen (vocal) with big band.

Forgot I had this lurking among my Suzanne Vega collection and can't remember the last time I played it so I'm correcting that now.

Richard Thompson - 13 Rivers, original UK vinyl.

His latest, my 3rd listen I think, sheer class. Dark themes even for RT, his usual acerbic and insightful lyrics, his usual varied setting which all underpin the lyrics superbly, Bobby Eischorn’s guitar adding to the masterful rhythm pairing of Jerome and Prodaniuk. We’re treated  to classic RT vocals, and a master class in lead guitar playing, I think this is up there with the great man’s finest works.

The first band I saw in the mid 60's

An old album I haven't played since possibly the year it came out 2005.

Should have played it a lot more.

By the way this is Justin Vernon before he became Bon Iver.

Next up his unreleased e.p. from 2006.

Santana - Caravanserai. Just an enjoyable album to let flow all around you as it's impossible not to move with the Latin rhythms.

Saw this posted earlier when I promised myself a play. In truth my CD reproduction is pretty flat but then as this was my first Cream album I forgive the flat presentation for sentimental reasons.

Bobbie Gentry - The Girl From Chickasaw Country, WAV CD rip.

1st listen to the first CD, superb, she’s a great interpreter of a song, she’s got great country-style material, this is incredibly affecting, lovely stuff, great SQ as well.

Saw the earlier post of Bill Wither's music so I am posting this excellent cover of his music by the greatly underappreciated Jose James

Did you get your ripper to recognise this and work for you Eoin?

6 of the 8 discs today Steve, if the others aren’t in the dbPoweramp database by the time I’ve listened to these 6 I’ll bite the bullet and hand type the tags.
