On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Ali Farka Toure - Savane
'The King of the desert blues' continues the feelgood theme. The superb title track always makes me wonder what might have been if he had ever guested with the Stones.
Since poor Alison has been neglected by Kev, who’s been spending a lot of time with you know who, I’ve decided to get this one out.
On CD:-
Alicia Keys - The Element of Freedom
Now Playing.................
Wolfgang Muthspiel and Brian Blade - Friendly Travelers
Wolfgang Muthspiel (guitars, voice) and Brian Blade (drums, guitar, voice)
Streaming on NAS............ continuing on with Wolfgang and Brian this morning, a recent purchase that was recommended by a forum member and an excellent recommendation it has turned out to be! A wonderful duo, enjoy this album quite a bit!
A day of Marty Balin, Jefferson Airplane & Starship. Remembering both Paul Kantner and Marty Balin.
Paul Kantner & Marty Balin live at The Great American Music Hall San Francisco, Marty Balin solo Good Memories and Jefferson Starship Live at The Robin 1st November 2002 ( Wolverhampton UK ) .
Playing on Compact Disc - Fabulous from The Stones......absolutley no fillers on it - Some say their best early album but thats subjective.Exile is superb but do rate this.

I did play The Frapp (in hi-res, no less) on Sunday Tony...
More Gentrification. Patchwork, along with The Delta Sweete, is probably Bobbie's great masterpiece. From the peerless The Girl From Chickasaw County box. Again, top-notch SQ.

As a teenager I used to go to see bands on a fairly regular basis. It was relatively cheap then. For rock bands my mates and I got into the habit of counting the number of speaker cabinets on stage before the main band came on. These were the days when you expected to come out of a concert with your ears buzzing for an hour or two, so the speaker cabinet count seemed relevant. I can't recall the details but I think Deep Purple held the record. Then we got tickets to see ELP. Since there were only three of them in the band and no lead guitarist we were somewhat surprised that the box count beat Purple's! ELP didn't disappoint and material from this album is what they played.
Saw these guys at Hebden Bridge Trades Club on Friday night. Bought the CD while I was there. Superb.
(1971)
A fine second album from Stephen Stills, one that I appreciate much more in recent years than at the time when I was too engrossed with the big 'bad' heavy rock, blues, metal and psychedelic bands to have much room left for some other artists.

Ian, I have to say that you have a fabulous collection of music there in your office. Well done!

Recession Blues
The Hoax paying a fine 35 minute tribute to BB King. Sadly, it seems they won't be making any more music together, they were a wonderful outfit who I had never listened to before until our very own Ewemon flagged this album up. I've now managed by hook and by crook to obtain all their albums which are a great statement to the quality of British Blues rock. This album was given to me by Jon Amor from the band who, when I told him how hard (impossible) it was to get it just mailed me the CD. Great blokes, great blues, great music played the right way with passion.
Elles Springs - Reveal, original vinyl.
Time to squeeze one album in before heading out for a Hope and Social gig, 2nd listen to this album. Ellles Springs is a major talent, these are really thoughtful meaningful songs, and she gets every ounce of meaning from them with a wonderful deep voice. Top class dobro work from Mark (can't remember his surname) enhances the words, and the rest of the band are excellent. Suoerb SQ from a half speed master from Miles Showell. Pretty sure this’ll be my album of the year.
The most poignant song on the album, Two month’s, eight weeks, written after her nephew was diagnosed with cancer and given first a year, then 2 months to live.
Russell Malone - Wholly cats
- Russell Malone - Guitar
- Larry Willis - Piano
- Rodney Whittaker - Bass
- Yoron Israel - Drums
