What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Stephen Tate posted:I've gone off the idea of ripping CDs into a NAS, too much 'poker face' aggro. I find it much more advanced and convenient to just put in CD, sit back and press play. Sod all this computer malarkey, I just cannot be bothered with it.
On CD-:
Great idea. Now where did I put those Tears for Fears CDs...hmmm must be in that other box up in the top of the closet, nope, not in that one. Oh I know where they are, in the basement...or wait I seem to remember lending them to my brother in law last time we got drunk together. Oh the hell with it I think I'll just turn the TV on instead.

Genesis - Genesis Live, 1980s vinyl
Fancied some prog, and it doesn’t get any proggier than this, Genesis on storming form in the height of the Gabriel era.
I agree, brilliant album. I think this album captures the highlights of the repertoire prior to Selling England very well, although it would have been nice to have had a Gabriel era live version of Supper's Ready.
I originally bought this when I was visiting London with a school friend. I bought it from Our Price on Tottenham Court Road and when I got home I found that it was dished. It wasn't until about ten years later that I got a new copy and a bit later again before I got the Definitive Edition Remaster on CD. I wonder what I did with the dished version?
Was lucky to see this incarnation of the band.
A number of trax off this album due out Nov.

Do you know the Genesis Archive 1967-75 box set? It’s got a live version of Supper’s Ready recorded at the Rainbow in 1973.
With all talk Genesis tonight,
Steve Hackett has announced that he's doing a 20 date UK Tour next November - He's playing Selling England By The Pound in it's entirety also playing tracks off his 1979 album Spectral Mornings to mark it's 40 th anniversary.Should be pretty tasty.Looking forward to it.The dates are on The Planet Rock site.
A bunch of trax of her up and coming album due out Nov.
Alvin Lee - The Anthology. Rockin' blues from the late and former Ten Years After guitarist/singer. The track "The Bluest Blues" with George Harrison is top notch.
Now Playing........
Pat Metheny Group - The Road To You
Streaming on NAS.......... walked in the door and selected to go with Pat who I started the morning with and this album is one I do enjoy, perfect to help unwind from a hectic afternoon.
Paul McCartney. Tug Of War. On original vinyl from 1982. Playing with all due respect to Geoff Emerick this is one of his best engineered albums. Analog recorded and digitally mixed, the SQ is superb for speed and immediacy, as well for soundstage depth and width.
Now playing.........
Anouar Brahem - Thimar
Anouar Brahem (oud), John Surman (soprano saxophone, bass clarinet) and Dave Holland (double-bass).
Streaming on NAS............. for the last album of the day the selection is Thimar with this captivating trio, the interplay between the three musicians is wonderful, magical in the method used to weave in and out of each other. The opening track 'Badhra' pulls you in and the journey begins........
Paul McCartney. Memory Almost Full. On CD from 2007. Another Geoff Emerick engineered recording and an album I haven't played in a while.
Philippe Cassard - Schubert Sonata D959 + Piano duets with Cedric Pescia
The breakfast treat
The last one from yesterday evening, not my special favorite..
Saw this had been reissued and realised I hadn't played it for a while. Spiritual jazz with a Cinematic Orchestra vibe and and a superb bass player - Andy Hamill.

Thanks, Eoink. I am aware of that box set, but I didn't know that it included a live version of Supper's Ready. That's a pity because I think that set is now difficult to find, at least at a sensible price.
Still, the recent Genesis Revisited live albums from Steve Hackett contain superb versions, especially that recorded at Hammersmith. The singer, Nad Sylvan, is rather Gabriel-like too.

Clive,
A great channel on YouTube is Orlando Bootlegs for Genesis
Well worth checking out.He has hundreds of recordings.I just stream off my tablet with a 3.5 mm to 2 phono socket lead but you might be able to do it with Blue tooth on your phone. Most of the concerts are good sound wise.
I was listening to Genesis at Earls Court in 1977 a couple of weeks ago and it was from the Capital Radio broadcast they did live from the gig.
Also they have Knebworth 1978 which is a cracker.....I am very sentimental about that one as it was my first gig.I have it on cassette as the Friday Rock Show with the late Tommy Vance broadcast it on Radio 1 that year.
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian .
Thanks, Ian. I've made a note to check it out next time I'm in a progressive rock mood.
E Clapton - I Still Do
An album I like more and more, the more I play it. Seems to have just the right balance of anguish and grit despite the years of adulation.
