What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Genesis - Rock Roots, 1976 vinyl
Reissue of their debut album From Genesis to Revelation with 4 bonus tracks from their early singles. I haven’t heard Genesis to Revelation for 35+ years, a friend had it back then. I see why I didn’t buy it, a band finding its feet, a few of the tracks (the last 3 on side 1) show the band that would produce the masterpieces they did after this, but there are quite soupy strings on most of the tracks, and some “Jonathan King” pop songs. Gabriel’s voice is already what it was in thengreatbera, and rescues the songs, it’s a pretty reasonable album as a pointer to where they would go. Another £5 purchase today, worth it for interest.
New favourite albums at the moment
Kandace Springs
Kamsai Washington
The Jayhawks
Spiritulized
Springsteen, Monthly live show from archive series..
The Allman Brothers Band - Idlewild South, 2016 reissue
What an album this is, Dickie Betts and Duane Allman are great co-lead guitarists, Gregg is one of the great rock/soul/blues voices, and the rhythm boys know what they’re doing. Great Southern Rock songs. Elizabeth Reed is one of the great rock numbers, I prefer the version on Fillmore, but this version is also stunning, impossible not to boogie to it.
Soul II Soul - Club Classics Vol. One
Still re-visiting my teen years, but you have to keep on movin'
Graham Parker - Cloud Symbols, Original vinyl.
Fantastic new album from the veteran pub-rocker, the brass section and the driving thythms gives it a bounciest, Parker has always been a superb lyricist, here the songs vary from cheerful to his trademark acerbic style, the band are excellent, this is a blast. Very looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.
I wanted to show off the translucent red vinyl, but found that the ceiling lamp and phone camera flash both reflected badly from the album cover, hence the “moody” lighting effect.
Qobuz. Paul McCartney - Egypt Station
Talking Heads - Little Creatures
Last one for the day, so may as well stay with my choices as a teenager. Sometimes I feel like I'm on A Road to Nowhere.
Playing the Will Hoge again as it is excellent. One for Dave and all those who like a bit of rawk
Sandy Denny - I’ve Always Kept a Unicorn - Original vinyl
A 2 album collection of the great singer-songwriter’s acoustic recordings. She wrote songs of immense sensitivity and musicality, and sang them with intense passion and soul. I love her work with Fairport, Fotheringay and her often lushly-produced solo albums. I also love these simple stripped down versions, the beauty of her singing and the songs shines through. Wonderful double album.

Thanks for the recommendation, (again), ordered, he’s new to me, any other albums I should look out for?

She was a huge talent for sure, reading her bio on Tidal just now - I never realised she was the female vocal on zeps battle of evermore and she died by falling down the stairs! Tragic.

A few years ago at the Cropredy Festival they were doing a tribute to her on the anniversary of her death (I’ve just realised it was 10 years ago!). Simon NIcol described her as the “only chick (sic) singer who ever sang on a Led Zeppelin album”, Percy then strolled on stage and duetted with Jerry Donahue’s daughter on Evermore. Awesome stuff,
The coda to this final track of the album by Sarah Davachi is worth the wait. Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks Bob you have made me get some out. That House Music BBC 4 history was great and very educational especially the Detroit episode.
Great LP TC and yes the first episode was actually the best I haven't watched the third one yet though.

Ray LaMontagne - Gossip In The Grain
Streaming on TIDAL........... taking out another of Ray's albums for a spin, great vocals and music, enjoying this Saturday afternoon with Ray.....
Elles Springs - Reveal, Original vinyl
Released on Vertere’s music label on a half speed master from Abbey Road, I think she’s a major talent. Very intelligent and meaningful lyrics, great tunes, Mark the guitarist plays great Dobro, and Elles gets both the joy and the pain of lyrics, this is a beautiful album.
Now Playing........
