On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Robert Plant. Carry Fire. On 2LPs from 2017. I haven't had a chance to really "get into" this album since it arrived last Xmas. Tonight I'm relaxed and undisturbed. Things are gelling in my room and I'm able to appreciate how good an album this is.

Following Black Fire with the only other Andrew Hill album I have in my collection, Point of Departure. I used to find this difficult to listen to, but clearly my ears weren’t ready for it when I bought it. Now I’m enjoying all its charms.
Try Compulsion!!!!! also on Blue Note.
Surely it can’t be as challenging as Coleman’s Free Jazz or Coltrane’s Ascension?!
Mingus Ah Um. It must have been most exciting to have been a jazz fan and record collector in 1959. In fact, the whole period from 1955 to 1970, but 1959 did present some milestones, this being one of them.
Playing on Compact Disc - Warming to this Nigel Kennedy's interpretation of The Four Seasons - I like it with classical when the musician stamps their playing style on a piece
Playing on Cassette on TDK SA - X C90 - A great Live Greatful Dead set recorded at The Warfield Theatre San Fransico in September - October 1980
Benny Golson - The modern touch
Great hard bop. Recorded in 1957.
- Bass – Paul Chambers
- Drums – Max Roach
- Piano – Wynton Kelly
- Tenor Saxophone – Benny Golson
- Trombone – J. J. Johnson
- Trumpet – Kenny Dorham
Lindisfarne - Back and Fourth, released in '78 ,an album that features one of the bands better known singles, "Run For Home".
On mid-70s vinyl. Why? Because it's my birthday today, and his as well. So it seems like a good place at which to start the day's musical journey.
Playing on Cassette on Maxell UL C60 - What can you say .....Classic comes to mind
Kev as it's your Birthday today thought you would appreciate this pic of the Lady who seems to have put Alison Goldfrapp in the shade......
Wishing you a good one
Cheers Ian

Wings Greatest, playing the remaster from earlier this year as it allows me to hear stand alone singles that don't feature on the already released and remastered albums from the archive series.Macca at his best in the '70s.
Playing on Compact Disc - Bob in tip top form on this masterpiece - Meet Me In The Morning is my favourite ....but it's all great
Now playing.........
Marcin Wasilewski Trio - Live
Marcin Wasilewski (piano), Slawomir Kurkiewicz (double bass) and Michal Miskiewicz (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL.......... taking Marcin's trio out for a spin to start of this Tuesday morning. Hoping his opening track 'Spark of Life' will give me a jump start this cold and dark morning. The trio is sounding mighty fine!
Keith Richards - Crosseyed Heart.
Playing on Compact Disc - Happy Monday's 2nd album from 1988 - I saw them on that tour at the Escape Club in Brighton and they where shambolic but very musical all the same
Yussef Kamaal / love is the message : fantastic !
John Hiatt - Live from Austin Tx (1993). A good live show with the Guilty Dogs, featuring lots of songs from Perfectly Good Guitar, one of his best albums imho.
Now playing........
Marcin Wasilewski Trio w/ Joakin Milder
Marcin Wasilewski (piano), Slawomir Kurkiewicz (double bass), Michal Miskiewicz (drums) and Joakim Milder (tenor saxophone).
Streaming on TIDAL......... continuing on with Marcin Wasilewski's music which is sounding mighty fine this morning, the slow pace of the music is matching my speed and gently pulling me into the day.
The Monkees - Greatest Hits, a brilliant compilation on Rhino that sounds great.
Playing on Cassette - Great album by The Ramones from 1987 - THe opening two tracks are great " I wanna live " and "Bop till you drop "
