Cropredy was really good this year Alan. Lots of old faces, Oysterband, Al Stewart, Levellers playing an acoustic set which I really enjoyed, but killed the crowd a bit. Fairport were as good as they’ve been for a while. Brian Wilson was quite sad, although musically it was good, Wilson was in a terrible state, it took 2 people to lift him from his piano stool and he only sang (intoned) about 3 numbers. He’s gone downhill a lot since I saw him on the Lucky Old Sun tour about 10 years ago. Couple of new acts to me I really liked, Barsteward Sons of Val Doonican, excellent high energy parody band, best seen live, and Midnight Skyracer, Young U.K. bluegrass band, really good musicians and charismatic.

And the cider? Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the report, and I'll keep an eye out for B S of V D!

Will Hoge - My American Dream, UK vinyl
2nd listen to this tour de force of country rock/Americana, committed lyrics sung with passion and played powerfully, fantastic album, thanks again Ewemon.
Glad you like it as it is on permanent rotation in the car at the moment. That is until the next gem comes along.

Absolutely delicious.
Yep. Think i'll join you with this one. Delicious sums it up nicely.
Is this the most referenced album on this thread and its predecessors?
Listened to this to see what all the fuss was about and have to say I was a bit underwhelmed
This is one album that sounded sumptuous on my Nova on older firmware but distinctly lacklustre on newer firmware.
I think you have to be in the mood for it in some ways, but I must admit I rarely listen to it all the way through.
On SHM cd , second disc.
Bill Evans at the Montreux Jazz Festival, 1968, with Eddie Gomez (b) and Jack DeJohnette (d). For me DeJohnette doesn't really work in this context; he seems too reserved or maybe he just mixed too far back. Notwithstanding that slight issue, this album does feature some full-on playing from Evans and Gomez. It won a Grammy award for best instrumental jazz album in the year of its release.
BandCamp discovery.
Excellent music, well recorded; https://nathanbowles.bandcamp....bum/plainly-mistaken
The Band - The Band, 1969 UK vinyl
1 year short of its half century, this is still compelling music, the origins of Americana, brilliant songwriting from (mainly) Robertson, they were all master musicians, superb singing, it’s worthy of its reputation.
I haven't played this for a while. Coming back to it I'm struck by the gospel influence, especially the opening song.
(2015)
British Sea Power - Sea of Brass
I've been meaning to play these boys again for a while and because I had a couple of tunes from this album knocking about in my head today while dealing with fences and boundaries at home I plumped for this one which is a fine combination of Indie rock and proper brass bands, Northern England style ...natch
Gregg Allman - Southern Blood, 1st press vinyl
His farewell album, recorded during his final illness, he covers songs by his friends and comtemporaries, Dylan, Little Feat, the Dead, Jackson Browne.. He sings with great passion, supported by a crack band who know him well, this is a truly wonderful album of blues/rock/folk sung by one of the great rock vocalists.
Ron Wood - Gimme Some Neck.
Victory - The Broken Instrument
Just love this gal's music. Genre? A melting pot of Jazz, Soul, R&B and Pop.
(2001 | 2003)
Roxy Music - The Best Of
Fancying something smooth, cool, relaxing and laid back before heading off this one caught my eye. Yes, it's a compilation (and a fine one) yet the SQ remains top notch and enhanced here ripped from a 2003 Virgin label hybrid SACD.
Midnight Skyracer - Fire, WAV CD rip.
As I mentioned above, I saw this band at Cropredy. Fantastically talented band, 5 top class instrumentalists, 3 of them also very fine singers, they write excellent bluegrass numbers and play them with flair, this album is a blast.
My Norah Jones collection seems to be increasing but this is one of my favourites. It conjures up such an effective smoky and sultry atmosphere.
Wilko Johnson Presents: The First Time I Met The Blues - Various Artists.
Wilko cherry picks the best of the Chess catalogue on this 2 CD 40 track collection ............. here's the review I left on The River :
"Folks of a certain age, like me, will remember hearing most of these for the first time, and being influenced throughout the
rest of our musical tastes by them.
Whilst still at school, I had to order many of these on the old Pye International R 'n B label, so it's great to have them all
collected here in one place.
Also handy that Wilco's memories are much the same as my own!"
You couldn't ask for a better introduction to the blues ................... most highly recommended.
Bobbie Gentry - I'll Never Fall in Love Again : The Best Of. an excellent 22 track compilation from 2015.
