What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Now playing.......
Theo Bleckmann - Elergy
Theo Bleckmann (voice), Ben Monder (guitar), Shai Maestro (piano), Chris Tordini (double bass) and John Hollenbeck (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL............ I enjoyed Shai's 'The Dream Thief' album earlier and in the ECM Notes it did referenced this Theo Bleckmann album so I put it in the queue and now taking it out for a spin! I also enjoy Ben Monder's guitar playing as well so an added bonus.......
Now playing........
Trygve Seim - Helsinki Songs
Trygve Seim (tenor & soprano saxophone), Kristjan Randalu (piano), Mats Eilertsen (double bass) and Markku Ounaskari (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL....... Something new that has been in the queue that I have not gotten around to playing, so taking 'Helsinki Songs' out for a spin...... and Trygve is sounding mighty sweet! Loving this one!
And on bass we have Norman Watt-Roy who later went on to play bass in Ian Dury's band.
Moby Grape

I didn't recognise that album cover, but I assume it's the same music as on the CD release. I played that CD (through NDS) a week or so ago and commented on here just how good I thought that SQ was. It's one of those albums I'm looking forward to hearing on the ND555 (if it's ever delivered!)
1st run...

Yes it’s the same...
I do really like The Style Council - I did not think much of them back in their day but as I've gotten older they've grown on me and very eighties too, which is more my era...
Great Compo here :
1st run, Jazz, with raw edge...

Again an impressive album, recommended...
Jethro Tull, This Was. This is a Chrysalis (as opposed to Island) vinyl LP from 1973 - but although it has a Chrysalis label, it has an Island matrix number! Anyways, it sounds really good. It's the only Tull album I have any time for.
Henri Texier - Sky dancers
Nice jazz by French bass player Henri Texier and his septet.
- Alto Saxophone [Alto Sax], Clarinet [Clarinets] – Sébastien Texier
- Baritone Saxophone [Bairtone Sax] – François Corneloup
- Double Bass, Composed By [Compositions] – Henri Texier
- Drums – Louis Moutin
- Guitar – Nguyên Lê
- Piano, Keyboards – Armel Dupas
Vinyl - Old favourite

Quite different in style from later Tull stuff. Bluesy. Perhaps the influence of Mick Abrahams who I think was replaced by Martin Barre on subsequent albums. I've got a '40th anniversary edition' on CD which is also on Chrysalis. The first CD is mono, the second a stereo mix. Lots of different takes eg from John Peel's show in 1968.
Playing on Vinyl - Very nice Vivaldi to kickback too and do the I newspaper crossword
A proper prog banger. On reissue vinyl from 2000 or so, sounding very good.
I got this UK first pressing (lovely plum Atlantic, distributed by Polydor, virtually mint) earlier this year in Brighton for just £30. Sounds lovely. After this album, the band lost me...
Interesting version of the famous pieces...
Barenboim still has some magic...

Its a new transfer apparently from the original master tape. Whatever, it is much clearer than the 1995 master I have got as well.
Got this from Japan off ebay - cost £21 + £2.50 postage. Worth the cost because its one of my favourite records ever. I bought the LP record in 1987 for about £3 I think and I still have it.
This Japan CD is a very nice thing - a replica of the LP record cover. Its part of a series with Phaedra, Rubycon and Stratosfear - all new transfers. As soon as I heard this one I went and ordered Rubycon and Phaedra. I will report on the SQ of these when they turn up.
Nice, I have an original 1975 vinyl copy that I convinced my sister to buy me for Christmas that year! Super album.
You just damaged my bank balance! Similarly one of my great favourites so couldn't resist the chance of improvement....now the long wait for delivery and attempts to resist also buying Phaedra and Rubycon...
Sorry about the bank balance! It took about 2-3 weeks to come for me. If its from the same seller that I got mine from, it is well packed and came in great shape. By strange coincidence as I type this, I have just got a dispatch notice email for Phaedra!
There is also an SACD of this, which looks very similar but is not dual layer, so you can't play it in a normal CD player. So its important to make sure you buy the right version - I got the normal CD. You can see all the different versions, including catalogue numbers, on discogs.
Hope you like it!
Thanks for extra info. I have purchased the SHMCD. Made me plat the album for the first time for a while and really enjoyed it. Look forward to your reports on the others.
