What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Playing On Vinyl - This has become a real favourite of late.Absolutely Curtains is fabulous especially the atmosphere.Rick Wrights keyboard sound is so early Floyd on that track.
(1999)
Alison Krauss - Forget About It
Simply because in the past few months I've missed her sweet voice and songs.
A rather better effort from Mr Waters, here;
Last night was The Wall - the original Pink Floyd release on US Columbia vinyl, Doug Sax cut, and the one I marginally prefer over the original UK issue.
Tonight it's The Wall Live in Berlin, from 1990, also on double vinyl. I dug it out yesterday and gave it a clean. Looking forward to it..

Crikey, Ian. I've got loads of Floyd albums but suddenly realised I don't have that one! Just ordered it.

Now Playing.........
Emmylou Harris - Quarter Moon In A Ten Cent Town
Streaming on TIDAL......... going with a mention from JOERAND and taking Emmylou out for a spin! .......and she is sounding mighty sweet this morning!
CD....I do have most of these tracks on Vinyl, but again, there are two or three that I do not have at all.
This one has been mastered from the original tapes so the clarity is very good. Worth the money. Not the bog-standard Motown stuff you seem to find on every CD that bears the name.
Joy Williams - Venus (acoustic version)
A great addition for anyone that has the "standard" version of Venus

I just popped for the 5 cd set. Its about $75 USD with shipping. Will be here before Thanksgiving (Nov 24th). The loggin and setup of the Naim and other web site to buy it was a challenge. It does not recognize your loggin credentials until you log off and attempt to re log in. I was able to put the set in my cart, but a devil of a time getting it to accept payment and complete the transaction. The transaction was handled by Bleep Limited, so you have to get a login for that also. What a mess. In this day and age, you think all the internet buying software would be bug free---not the case.
I will let you know when I get and listen to it, and give my reaction. There are many artists and types of music, so its going to be a long session.

Now Playing........
Charlie Haden & Chris Anderson - None But The Lonely Heart
Charlie Haden (bass) and Chris Anderson (piano)
Streaming on TIDAL............ after listening to Charlie & John Taylor earlier today, I thought taking out Charlie & Chris would be a nice mid -morning treat, and they are sounding mighty fine!
Gene Harris - Live at Otter Crest
Nice live recording from 1981.
- Bass – John Heard
- Drums – Jimmie Smith
- Piano – Gene Harris
An official recording of a brilliant Otis Taylor gig from 2013. Unreleased.

I love just about every Gene Harris album, going back to The 3 Sounds. He plays with such energy and joy!
I've got a few Beth Nielsen Chapman albums now. This was my first and it remains my favourite.
Chet Baker Quintet featuring Wayne Marsh - Blues for a Reason - Criss cross Records Jazz 1010 - 1984
Another great release from this Dutch Jazz label as well as Chet and Wayne it feature on Drums Eddie Gladden, on piano Hod O'Brien and on bass Cecil Mcbee all fine musicians and another excellent acquisition.

Great performer -- and such sympathetic with the rest of the musicians!!

Cassandra Wilson / Billie Holliday - You Go to My Head / The Mood That I'm in. Record Store Day 2015 10" vinyl.
A side is Cassandra's version of the two tracks and the B Side is Billie's original.
Two very different versions Cassandra tries to totally rework both tracks but it isn't up to her usual standard Billie on the other hand is fantastic and other worldly as always. Unfortunately the pressing isn't at all great but still it is an absolute treat to hear these previously unheard by me early Billie recordings.
Vinyl reissue released 2017, originally released 1992.
Listen to the skies, listen to the sound, something in the land, something going down…” The late great activist, poet, actor, author, and musician John Trudell’s AKA Graffiti Man (1992) is a potent, timeless slab that speaks truth to power with a blues rock disposition peppered with Native American motifs.
Praised by Bob and George; featuring cameos by Jackson Browne, Kris Kristofferson, and Billy Payne, among others; and possibly the last recorded work of guitar giant and longtime Trudell / solo-Beatle collaborator Jessie Ed Davis; studio bass legend Bob Glaub.
Great album. ????

I was at that gig.

That’s interesting. I was at THE live gig of Spock’s Beard - published under the title “Gluttons for Punishment”
I only went to 2 gigs at The Rainbow when it was open in 1970s. By co-incidence, the other one turned out to be this:

Many happy concerts at the Rainbow
Laura Veirs - Warp And Weft
No duffers.
I recall having a battered pre recorded cassette of this in my car stereo for about a year back in the early 80’s. Still pretty funky stuff all these years later. There was a documentary film on herself produced in Ireland and released earlier this year on Netflix called Bloodlight and Bami which gets fairly good reviews

Used to listen to John a lot. Need to dig out his albums and have another listen.
What a brilliant album this is. I’d forgotten that the version I have includes loads of extra tracks not on the original LP.
